How many molex pins does it take to power a drive?

One of the power molex pins fell out from my HDD and lo and behold, I plugged it in and it is working with 3 pins only and no smoke/shorting/shock immc...yet

Yip, you may very well be right since the missing pin connects to a black wire on the molex plug.

Yup, then that's a ground wire for sure...so no worries until the day comes where you may very well need that wire...

In what circumstances will i need that wire? Let me know so i could park it up and have it only as a spare.
