You don't need a physics card to try cellfactor.
that's right! The ONE GAME which made it look like you absolutely needed a ppu, handled by a chump processor.
230+ MB be easy on my line
Capped it on my tv card. I'll make a better smaller demo when I have time.
Done! 8.6MB
I installed the phys drivers and demo and run by the parameter "cellfactor.exe EnablePhysx=false"
casesensitive.
Here's an 8 minute clip of it running on my pentium D 2.66@ 3.34GHz, x1900xt. explosions seem weird - sometimes you're pushed back ridicuously far. This is just me playing around in a level devoid of bots using the demo.
Given this, I'm pretty certain the new architectures - Core2, hammer, and even amd's future K8L and upcoming quad core is sure to put the physics card back in the closet.

No i didn't - all the particles still move and react as they normally do. That just puts physics on the cpu instead of the ppu. If physics were off you wound't see and of those objects bouncing around.
physics is on, physx is off

200 us actually :p , yea its a waste of moneh , nice video but i'm not impressed really , sure theres LOTS of sh!t flying around , but the effect on gameplay is almost the same as any other modern game eg. hl2 deathmatch , FEAR.
People with PPU's and SLi even report low frame rates ,so it not CPU lag unless you don't have a dual core......

Well the reason you don't see the effects of having a PPU is b/c most (read all) past games HL2 included didn't support it. The only engine right now that uses say Ageia physX engine is the Havok and Ureal 3. So right now we don't see the real effects but give it time. When UT2006/7 drop you'll see the difference between your second core doing the physics and the PPU.

Havok is independant of physx. It's an interface. They wish to implement havok based physics via the graphics card, but because it's just an interface, there's no reason why it cannot use the ppu either. ageia and havok is the next amd vs intel/nvidia vs ati/kiss vs choelo's.
they're pushing close to $300

and even then, it maybe marginal to your enjoyment of the game.
not worthy of a US$200.00
As opposed to going from onboard video to a 7600GT.
BLOTOYE!!! Mind blowing difference in all your games.
Here, you spend another US$200.00 to get a PPU and proceed to be underwhelmed. Two boxes shimmy in a corner to the breeze, woohoo.
Here is what an actual customer of the card said, he now has his up for auction, lol:
Pros: Great IDEA, lets take some of the processing burden off the CPU.
Cons: -Almost no games support it. -Only minimal, almost unnoticeable performance improvement. -That much cash buys a lot of ram or can add a lot to your processor buying power (expensive) -Came out a year too late to be practical. -Obsolescence likely with multicore processing.
Other Thoughts: I went out and got AUTOASSAULT and ADVANCE WARFIGHTER and DLed the patches to try it out because I didn't have any games that worked with it. It worked fine in that it was working, but I thought to myself how much is this thing really helping? So I uninstalled it and loaded up the games again . . . I was stunned- I saw virtually no improvement in the smoothness of game-play or the overall game performance. You might want to ask yourself, with Dual core proc's becoming the standard and quad-core processors a reality: Is a dedicated physics card an idea that's time has passed before it arrived? I now think so, to little to late. I put mine on (EDIT: up for auction).

So then when those pple who wrote reviews on newegg and said that trees, dirt, water etc in battlefield had improved, they were lying. Had to be cuz the physx processor doesnt even affect those things.
Rather spend the money on that better processor or videocard.

dude - i have a friend that claimed that the xfi improved the sound in bf2 over his audigy. Then on looking at the sound options, he wasn't even using the eax options or the special high quality options the xfi enables.
I believe there's some sort of placebo effect from just having the hardware.

noobs live long...
noobs with money live forever..
usual stories, man play a video of hl2 preview and say his 5200 can handle it at highest settings , game chugging along at 10fps and it ''smooth''..

Aint that the truth. I have experienced people like this many times. The best was this fella who ad a 5200 and say his farcry ran at 1600x1200 on high settings smoothly. God alone known his interpretation of smooth. Some people just cant seem to see the difference between 10 and 35/40 fps.

Sounds like my older brother
I havent a friggin clue how he can play games running like a powerpoint slide. Least with these people this is what they know. If you dont know better, you may not imagine better. I can't laugh at them.
Some people on the other hand, spend $600 extra for 5%-10% more cpu, and claim there's a difference. When it comes to this, my belly buss

See that's just it. You will always find people who are either at one extreme of the spectrum or another. Find a bloddy middle ground which is more often than not defined by the best price/performance ratio or best bang for buck or whatever!!!!!
Mind you, it has happend more than once before that ive shown people one game run on two separate machines, one decent system and another on board graphics type system....SIDE BY SIDE....and they dont see a difference. It never fails to amaze me i'll be like.....nah you cant be serious cant yousee how this system running the game jerky jerky and this other system running the game smooth? only to have them look at me with a blank look on their faces and say something like....no, what u talking about both of them look about the same. I just hit them two tap and tell them get out meh house. Even my dad falls into that category only i cant do tat to him.
Some people just dont appreciate smoothness due to decent fps.

updated the video - it's MP4 - so if you dont have the right codecs, just use VLC.
made to fit ipod
only 8.6 MB now and short.
