7900xxx 7600xxx
« on: February 26, 2006, 09:46:20 AM »
Reports are that the 7900 and 7600 series cards are on their way , due in march....

 7900 GTX... :
 24 or 32 pipelines ( unconfirmed, 32 is my bet )
600mhz core  clock
1.8GHZ GDDR 3
512mb
500 USD

 7900 GT
24 pipelines ( yes it is a rapist)
450mhz clock
1.4 ghz GDDR3
256mb and 512mb variants
300 USD ( yes , you can own a 7800gtx for cheap now)

 7900 :
 unconfirmed

7600 :
12 pipelines
560mhz clock  ( will probably overclock to 650mhz  , even at stock speeds its faster than a 6800 ultra)
1.6ghz GDDR3
256mb or more
200 USD and less

I guess we should kiss ATI goodbye for  another 6 months.. Though they still doing good providing low end graphics chips , my  two neighbours sporting ATI cards .

yeah

ATI has some nice options at the sub US$150 mark

X800 GTO and X1600

Very cheap cards that pack a punch.

Nvidia wtfpwns at the US$200 mark though with the 6800GS.

I see that Nvidia  just released the 7300 but lawd, that card is crap.

It is only marginally better than a 6200. Pretty lame.

It seems they will never bring down true performance to the low end market. A 3 year old TI 4600 will beat a 6200 / 7300 hands down. Come on.

Actually Baego:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display...0223090220.html
Quote
Nvidia Corp. plans not only to increase performance fiercely with the launch of its new code-named G71 graphics processors, but also to decrease pricing of single-chip high-end graphics cards. For those who demand ultimate performance, dual-chip graphics cards will be promoted.

Nvidia’s yet to be released GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB graphics board has planned retail price tag of $499, whereas the GeForce 7900 GT is projected to be available for $299. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the GeForce 7800 GTX 512 will be down to $399, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.

Nvidia’s code-named G71 graphics processing unit (GPU) will be a 90nm version of the original code-named G70 GPU that has 24 pixel processors and 8 vertex processors. The G70 was originally made using 110nm process technology, which means that producing it using the thinner 90nm fabrication process will decrease the cost of manufacturing and will allow higher clock-speeds compared to existing maximum of 550MHz.

The GeForce 7900 GTX product will have clock-speeds of 650MHz for the chip and 1600MHz memory, some informed sources have indicated.  The new GeForce 7900 GT product will have 450MHz/1300MHz clock-speeds for core/ memory.

For those who demand the ultimate performance, Nvidia’s add-in-board partners will offer a graphics card with two GeForce 7900-series GPUs. Two of such cards will allow quad-SLI multi-GPU mode providing unprecedented performance.

Nvidia Corp. did not comment on the news-story.
Cheap say wha?

http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/geforce-7600-7900/index.x?pg=1

Overall Nvidia's cards seperate themselves from ATI by a small amount ...

One thing to note is that the 7900 GT is faster than a 7800GTX for 250-350 US , it contains 24 pipelines etc. like the 7900 GTX , just a lower clock, looks to be very attractive for overclockers .

7600gt is roughly twice as fast as a 6600gt , slightly faster than a 6800 ultra . It uses the same circuit board as the 6600gt which helps decrease costs .

This year seems to be a good one for hardware .

dying? are you mad?

6600GT still beats a 7300 by a good margin. That's your 7's getting WTFPWNEd by a 6.

Even an old TI 4600 would beat the 7300. That is a 4 beating your precious 7. lol

So don't be get suckered into the marketing machine.

Usually, the price point tells the truth.

It is no surprise that a 6600GT still goes for US$150.00

More expensive than some ATIs X1600 cards (which go for as low as US$120.00)

A typical GL won't spend more than US$150 on a video card which is why I am so keen on seeing cards fall into that price point. Especially 256bit ones like the 6800GS.

After talking to Trini recently though my eyes are set on the 7600 GT. That delivers some impressive 3dmark 2006 scores at US$199.99

At the very least, it should make the 6800 GS drop into the $150.00 zone. In which case the 6600GT will have no where to go but down in price or off the shelf since the GS wtfpwns it.

Note, both are still 6 series cards but they can deliver the gaming goods.

If you want us to go 7900 GTs, win lotto and sponsor the GLs. lol

with the advancements of these cards so quickly 6600gt yes it is a worthy card and so on.
but cut the talk we aint falling for no crap that is the 7300 we all knw these are cheap user cards that the non gamer will obviously buy. Or the not so educated gamer.
Basically imo the 6600gts are worthwhile investment for cafes / housholders yea...
BUT with the newer and much more advanced cards ala 7600gt ..what ever ati has to throw out what sense it makes?
we were paying 200 us last year for a darn 6600gt am i not correct and now the 7600gt is 200 us soooo
as in advancements ppl willmove up and why not if you were going to pay 200 last year whats the difference now in buying that card for a new rig?.
Financialy wise the 6600gt is a good bet and yes it can handle alot of the new games out there but where will the gret 6 series be by september
or by december?

yes we all talk about the ti still owning fx cards etc
BUT how much of us still using a bloodclat ti lol

you also said that they were dying.

The first part of my post was a rebuttal to that.

Giving points to prove that the cards are still very viable (period)

Cafe users/home users/ etc....

Then I went on to ramble about how the new cards are poised to finallly bring power to the people in letting those same "good card" fall into a lower price bracket.

My only fear is that they don't and they fall off the shelf altogether.

you're right about that.

The people who I am worried about are those that bought FX 5600 cards thinking they were upgrades to TI card.

Same for the 7300

The 7600 GT is a good bet for someone spending US$200.00

At us$150 the best bet is still an X800 GTO.
