Nevermind what the rest of people are doing. Try and start a trend yourself.
Rally with a few padners and fire up FEAR, Battlefield 2, COD2, whatever.
With luck, others will jump in, have a good time and continue to sweat it long after you've gone. It's the only way a new game has ever spread throughout the gamedom.
There is no "Make People Sweat Game X" fairy that flies through the land.
Nor has any "stop playing this game" thread worked to stimmy the masses.
Most of the hard core sof players don't even read forums. They register on the site once, walk into a GL countless times thereafter, pluck down their $5 and fire up de game.
What we did in the past, to usher in new games on the scene, was host a mini tourney.
Can't say they were overly succesful in changing play patterns but it did almost forcibly give folks a taste of something new, in the hope that they'd like it.
It's a nice compromise and maybe something you'd want to try arranging with those new games you're so fond off!
I'm sure there are those that would welcome the effort.
