What game in your opinion was the greatest multiplayer game ever for the pc? In terms of replayability.... value and general enjoyment.. for me Half life so far was the best value for money .... look at all the great gameplay you got from 1 game ! Counterstrike for tactical FPS freaks.. Day of Defeat for WWII fans , Team Fortress and normal deathmatch for the quake guy in you , Ricochet for plain kix, Natural Selection (which was the first game i think to have a 'commander' feature eg. in BF2).... Thats at least 200 US worth of gameplay or more for the cost of 1 game!
Compared to what Microsoft does to poor people on the xbox.. forcing them to pay 20 us for a handful of new maps , though halo does have alot of gameplay variety in the multiplayer as opposed to Half Life 1 or 2 stock (racing , deathmatch , co op single player etc. ) but the single player is weak compared to either Valve game.. and one night's worth of downloading on dialup , or a few hours on dsl will get you a much wider variety of games than Halo has to offer ... Also even though steam is a pain in the @ss! its still FREE once you bought the game , patches to stop cheating , new maps made by paid professionals and even the whole game itself is available FREE to download for anyone who lost their cd ...
Battlefield 1 & 2 were plain groundbreaking , once you enjoy this type of game you will play it till you or your PC dies... not much variety as compared to halo or half life but very enjoyable , the sheer scale of the game makes it enjoyable , the strategic gameplay etc.
Quake III was just your plain old deathmatch game , but it has a charm none can match , i still keep a copy on my machine just to practise sniping with the railgun ..
Unreal 2004 is alot like Halo taken to the scale of Battlefield , or battlefield made non realistic.... very fun and doesn't kill your machine like either battlefield did , i'd rather unreal than halo any day .
Tribes was the first game to include the kind of scale and vehicles we see today in unreal and battlefield.. though the gameplay wasn't as enjoyable it still was damned kool...
Call of Duty , especially with United Offensive expansion is extremely enjoyable , more so than Day of Defeat , Mohaa or any other WWII game except perhaps Battlefield ....
Medal of honour was the first big wwII game online , but it can't match Cod for gameplay or variety
Raven Shield is a favourite amongst realistic tactical shooter freaks... anyone who complains that its too hard just sucks :p , it CAN be played at a fairly fast pace ( if you looking to get snipe) if you hold down run and use the lightest armour , but is best played slow and steady with team mates in mind , dead realistic down to the slightest detail, great multiplayer and all round great game...
Halo was the first game to give good , simple gameplay and vehicles all in the same package.... it does so fairly well but can't touch any of the newer games .
