The bandwidth is not the only ting to watch for - it is the latency also. You could have high bandwidth but also high latency...not good for gaming. By the time yuh do someting yuh done ded and buried.
Ideally, high bandwidth and low latency

i really dont want to be switching between dsl companies

and green dot's offer is the same as tstt's $450 a month, which

is just too much for internet "broadband as they classify it, 30k

down just doesnt cut it epecially at $400++ dollars"

If green dot offers better rates that will be really good

don't forget that  you can also get a cheaper , 350 a month , 128k broadband service , thats  the same price as dialup but with more features , and -50 dollars a month for extra phone line .
and also this ISN'T tstt...... so hopefully you will not have the network going down for half a day and you stuck with no DSL ( 3 sattelites feeding network, redundancy ) , you won't have images on your website unable to load cause TSTT is timing out ( happens to my brothers www.torphoto.net) . even if the satellite backbone DOES prevent some P2P programs from working well, TSTT blocks the ports to them anyhow !
not to mention the retarded speedstream modems bumping you off the network for no reason.........

not happening, emule & kad are working just fine.

besides, why would tstt have any interest in blocking p2p ports ?
p2p is most likely the main reason why 80% of their
'broadband' customers use the service in the 1st place.

I agree with all your other points though - tstt's infrastructure
is just too weak outside pos, sando or chaguanas - and certainly not
suitable for dsl. lol.. I lose all connectivity whenever someone
picks up the fixed line phone in the house.

wireless is the way to go... now how do I get out of my 2 year tstt contract ? :/

well he is right in that TSTT blocks the p2p programs right out of the gate with their firewall.

You can have that removed though and then the p2p apps will work.

It is in their interest to "secure" the customer's connection because of serious can of worms that an unprotected machine can open. For both the user and the network as a whole.

Can't say I blame them.

Using a DSL filter on that fixed phone line should fix your disconnection issues starcon! We had a big discussion on that the other day in the office.

About $80 - 100 for an extra one at a local store.

thx for the info, I actually told them to deactivate it when I signed up - so I never ran into trouble.

I have that lil' dsl filter thingie from tstt - I always thought that was only a splitter. strange thing is, I only get disconnected once someone picks up the old tstt phone - the handset that is connected to the same line isn't causing any trouble.
anyhow, thx for the advice, I'll hook that thing up.

So Baego, in spite of my signalless positioning this Green Dot DSL should be a viable option for me, esp as TSTT does NOT offer aDSL in my area?
