article is nice and all but lack some detail as in the processor of creating a whole new programming language for cell also the creation of instruction that the cell risc chips must use. While they may seem trivial please remember the the game programmer must get the new language and understand how to use it for the best purposes . Also this thing about cheap chips . Any chip that has more the 1MB of onboard memory will be expensive to make and yields of those chip are not very good case in point Itanium cpu by intel . These chips have alot L2 cache vlablevalibe with the newest and most expensive itanium having 9 Mb of level 2 cache also the power requriment for such a chip is very larger . If I read the article properly they say that each cell chip will have at least of 8 apu with each apu have control of a 8 Mb of High speed memory . If they get this done well if shall be quiet a feat. Also since the apu have no on abroad cache or virtual memory they will be prone to memory errors if bytes are read wrong. All those apu shall make for a quite fast flotaing point operating score but what will suffer for in it for return.
Bascially i wonder when they will show the first cell to the public and show it working .

Well actually i don't think it will have errors in memory, after reading the whole article I have come to think that this cell is akin to the Cray processors used in cray supercomputers... which if u know are some and were some of the most powerful machines ever built.. I not sure bout now.. but they were in leaps and bounds way ahead of anything else in the world at their time. As for the language the article mentioned somethign about running java on it using the current virtual machine or evern emulating x86 , now I know u'll say emulation is slow... true, however if the chip is  as fast as they claim it is, emulation is not even remotely a problem. The article also claims it is indeed small and cool and cheap, they are set to be used in HDtvs and DVD players apparently. So I wouldn;'t worry about that too much. The way I see it, IBM, Sonym Toshiba, etc would not waste as much money on this if it weren't bloody well worth it. So I say I welcome this new tech and hope that it is as sucessful and powerful as it seems on paper.

cray supercomputer don't use noraml fabbing or cheap materal not like those companies . I just saying i perfer to see one work and stop all this spec nonsense . XBOX2 is suppose to come out this year . Dev stations been out for it since 2003. There are no ps3 dev station so i at lost how sony doing all this crap and not have programmer with the software to write the games and test
