Something we can afford : 6600 + X700
« on: November 01, 2004, 09:15:41 PM »
For all those like me , looking for a new graphics card to push HL II and Doom III , and whatever else may lie around the corner [ halo II?] . Here are some things we can afford, with performance that beats the last generation of high end cards [9800xt/5950] .

Sub 160

6600 non GT/ultra :
performance = to 9700 pro @ stock, can meet and beat 6600GT and 5950 when overclocked .

http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/revie...XJsX3BhZ2U9MQ==

X-700 non pro :
performance = to 9800 pro @ stock, overclocking still unsure.
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2...tml#3dmark_2003

200-250
6600 GT 128 & 256mb : Performance equal and surpassing  9800xt/5950 , when overclocked performance equal to 6800 non ultra .
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2...tml#3dmark_2003

X-700 pro 256mb :performance = to 9800 xt  , can overclock to X-700xt speeds .

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2...tml#3dmark_2003
X-700 XT 128 & 256mb : performance and surpassing 9800xt/5950 , overclocking still uncertain .

All cards listed are PCI-X now, but will be ported to AGP later on .  Right now an overclocked 6600 looks REAL nice to me ...

For once I agree with you...the 6600 does indeed look very interesting. Price + performance to craw. Wouldn't mind landing one a those.

ranging from 250 to 400
thats affordable

For those that don't know....MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

Now, having gotten that out of the way...we will NEVER get gfx cards down here at MSRP! Simply because the hardware companies down here are scurvy dogs and will ALWAYS mark up a hot commodity like a gfx card by unreasonable amounts.

I truly wish someone could proove me wrong there...cos if I could get a gfx card for close to the kind of prices that I can get them for online...then I'd be more than willing to buy it from that shop...but until then...I'll continue to support the likes of newegg.com etc where they don't try to buss yuh head wit price!

The 6600 looking like it is in my future as well.

A serious line for a serious time. (rhyme iymc)

The clincher will be when Dual PCI Express becomes a reality for the layman.

Then my money spend (rhyme again to craw)
