Red Faction: Armageddon

I've been cleaving through new games because of humble bundle and found this one was intense, but altogether relatively easy ( i play most games on normal)
the storyline is decent albeit somewhat cliche.
Honestly, it's hard to argue with the game when it was part of a $6 game bundle.
however The game did crash a few times, not sure why my rig is more than capable of handling it.

A fun game, decent mechanics, linear plot.
Almost entirely destructible terrain (Makes for interesting cover/destruction scenarios)
can then rebuild destroyed things to rebuild cover.
awesome magnet gun --> (read: pelt enemies back and forth)

Shank

Wicked little side scroller here

Was a huge fan of Final Fight, Double Dragon, Sengoku and the likes and this modern take on those 1980s classics doesn't stray too far from the formula.

Increasingly difficult and agile enemies.  Diverse weapons, impressive combos, boss battles (compete with attack patterns), fluid and responsive gameplay, character intros...the works.

The usual trope of holds rendering your hero immune to attacks from others held true.

One aspect that also persevered regardless of my best efforts, was that of regular deaths. One bad jump and its game over. Thankfully the automatic checkpoint system was very generous, saving your progress every two screens or so.

As is expected with steam games nowadays, there are numerous stats and achievements to muse over.

Shank deviates from the side scrollers of old in one key area. It is a very gory and replete with colorful language.

Not one for the kids.

Going to give this one a solid 9 street thugs out of 10

Just Completed: Shank 2

In a word...FRUSTRATING

Had a blast with Shank 1. Thought Shank 2 would have been more of the epic side scrolling beat-em-up goodness.

Boy was I wrong.

Started well enough with improved game mechanics and smoother animation but then later on, the difficulty got insane. Just kept dying over and over again.

I lost count (but the game didn't, thanks to tracking of that particular statistic). 51 times, in one level.

Unbelievable. I'm no noob....to meet my maker 51 times playing through one relatively short level of a side scroller reflects poorly.

A game should be fun man. Apparently the developers' idea of a good time is infuriating the player incessantly.

I'm gonna have to score Shank 2 considerably lower than its predecessor for that reason.

5 rockets to face out of 10

**Full disclosure, I played Shank 1 with keyboard and mouse while I played Shank 2 with an xbox controller....I have read online where people found using the keyboard and mouse made the game significantly easier to play, particularly the turret segments (where most of the deaths occurred) due to the granular targeting control the mouse offered. YMMV

Just Beat Assassins Creed Black Flag. Fun enough game, I played it through for the experience, was enjoyable. Fight mechanics were favorable but fun. Storyline was engrossing.
8/10.
Cons - Didn't really 'absorb me'

Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds for the 3DS is a masterpiece of this era, while touching on the past gameplay of Link to the Past (Snes).
If you never played the Zelda series and want a solid starter, then this game is an excellent first touch into the genre . The 3D visuals are not tacked on in any way, as you will be scratching your head in dungeons as to where that switch or platform is until the 3D is turned on, as well as to the wall painting mechanic which seems trivial at the start, but as you play it becomes NEEDED to solve puzzles and get around the maps.

The usage of no hand holding may turn off some gamers with short attention spans, but it's a welcome change from the linearity of the past versions, and for once no annoying 2nd character to buzz you every 5 mins on where to go.

From start to finish let your brain actually work for this game, and you will be satisfied as i was when you reach the end, as well as be craving more as you enter the Hero mode.

Solid 10/10 from me. Now I'll go back and play Hero mode :D

Games beaten recently...this is not all, and some strectch back to 6-8 months.

Assassins Creed IV - enjoyed it till 3/4 way through. story took a nosedive. gameplay was stellar but that story just fail as far as the assassins creed lore goes (imo) gameplay was the best in the franchise tho, massive world as well. 7.5/10

Castlevania Lords of Shadow - epic game, great setting, awesome puzzles and boss battles 8.5 /10

State of Decay - great brutal open world zombie game. sort of gta 4 meets walking dead. horrendously addictive 8.7/10

Xcom Enemy Within I rarely play over games, but this expansion to enemy unknown just win on every single level.

10/10 (for me)

Batman Arkham Origins, had a crappy open world, but it ended up having the best boss battles and overall story in the Arkham series imo. 8/10.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance I usually play games lil bit lil bit.(sometimes could play one game for months to years) this game i beat in one sitting. That should explain everything. Extremely short, but the most satisfying hack n slash in recent times. 10/10

WWE 2K14 (PS3)
9/10
Playing the universe mode... but I beat the entire Wrestlemania Mode earning all the PSN trophies for it.
Very nostalgic feeling while playing the classic matches with Stone Cold, Undertaker, etc
Only complaint was the commentary. very repetitive and no where as funny or authentic as the commentary in FIFA

Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker HD (PS3)
7.5/10
Very nice game. never played the original on the PSP, so glad to take a touch of this in HD format. The story was nice as any Metal Gear but did not particularly like the Graphic Novel like cutscenes and the violence while intense was a bit watered down thanks to its "T" rating... otherwsie though an entertaining game with a nice climax.

Call of Duty Ghosts (Single Player PC)
8/10
I'm gonna get a lot of heat for this but I care not. This game (singleplayer wise) showed the difference between Infinity Ward and Treyarch (at least in a story  telling aspect) The gameplay is the same yes, the graphics are aged like the dryest wine yes.. but the whole campaign had me riveted from beginning to end. The action sequences were quite brilliant especially in the space and underwater sequences.

Outlast (PC)
9.5/10
I took a while to beat this because of the horrifying elements and gameplay. but it was worth it. This game is scary as sin and I can't wait for the sequel. Alien Isolation better take note of this.

Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (PS3)
10.10
This game is another classic and came bundle with MGS Legacy Collection. The difficulty was extreme and the story and action were really top notch. yea sure its 8 bit. However it's tough, addicting and engrossing. Old School games are the shiznit yo

Need For Speed Rivals (PC)
4/10
I'm glad I "acquired" this game via "unoffical" means. This game is the definition of crap. The graphics are nice, yes... but I was bored playing this game. It took me sheer willpower to finish this and usually I don't need "willpower" for a racing game. Lovely graphics, YES. Excution and fun, HELLZ NO.

TitanFall (PC)

9/10

Waxed on at length about this next gen shooter in the beta review which can be read here:  http://www.carigamers.com/cms/forums/index.php/topic,28739.0.html

Succinctly, it was fantastic. A true successor to the FPS throne. The final product earned accolades from GATT members of all strata and unified us like never before.

Took two days to complete the game (the official campaign) and a full week to reach the max level of 50.

I'll deduct half a point for not having private matches at launch.....and another half of a point for a weak campaign, resulting in a firm score of 9 Fallen Titans out of 10

Boom bang
