SLURPR
« on: January 03, 2013, 11:43:31 AM »
Remember those days of having two dial up routers to get twice the speed?
well me neither, but this wifi router promises to raid all the nearby signals and turn it into one big stream just for you!
Check it out.

On June 1, 2007 Mark Hoekstra (geektechnique.org) will preview The Slurpr at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam. The Slurpr is a high speed Wi-Fi broadband router that takes up to six available Wi-Fi channels and combines them into one free and ultra broadband connection. Fast and Free Internet Access with just one box! Now you can enjoy the great advantages and comfort that come with a high speed internet connection, all for free.
The Slurpr automatically connects to the 6 strongest available Wi-Fi channels in your neighborhood to give you unparalleled connectivity. To make this happen, 6 Wi-Fi adapters are combined in one small package. The six extra sensitive antennae give you an even wider range of connectivity.
The Slurpr will be on display and available for pre-ordering at The Next Web Conference.

Can anyone spell i-m-m-o-r-a-l

Commercializing the pilfering of people internet, lol

And yes, I remember when shotgunnin' two modems was the big thing.

Two USR 33.6 or 56K modems bonded together ftw. Massive 112k connection speeds.

Well if people continue to operate their networks unsecured, then there are others that will continue to pilfer free wi-fi.
Nothing immoral about that.

Secure your wi-fi network.

^^ Agreed lol.

Also, these days everybody wifi is they DLS Modem box, and those come with a default long ass password now. So finding an open wifi should be rare these days. Unless made so by choice.

immoral is from your perspective, not that of another's.

If a woman in the road naked, it immoral to take advantage. Cant say "oh, she shoulda put on clothes"

True, but what is you definition of advantage,

If a woman walking in d road naked, and she looking like ah supermodel, you eh going to look?
Now is looking "taking advantage" or immoral?

And if said woman says, dont look at me because im naked, isnt it right to say...well put on clothes... ?

you guys have oversimplified it.
Its kind of like constantly using your 6 neighbours gardening tools whenever they arent using it to maintain your lawn.
If they dont mind sure.

My question is.. what happens if the 6 wifi signals you hook onto also have slurpr boxes?

To use yuh neighbours gardening tools yuh hada tresspass on the man yard, take he tools, then depreciate the value of said tool by using it.

But when it comes to wifi on the other hand, their are legal open wifi networks aviable for anyone to use. What is to stop a user from distinguishing between which ones are the OK ones to use and which ones are ppl being dotish?

So then should ppl not connect to any open wifi network ever again because it's immoral? But the whole purpose of a wifi network being open was intended for the public to connect to.

Yuh cant just lump it up into general immorality. This is a bit different. In this particular case, i think the onus is on the users of the wireless technology to use it as intended, which is why it have no law saying, if u connect to somebody open wifi and suck they internet u getting charge. But there are laws saying, if u jump yuh niehgbour fence and "borrow" he tools, yuh coudl get yuh skin lock up.

lol because it is untangible makes it a hard crime to solve.
It would be funny to see people getting fined for bandwidth pilferage.

However, If there is municipal wifi and my own wifi, i don't see anything wrong with mergin the two streems for a lil extra boost.

Indeed, it have laws, and then it have being paranoid.

Yuh cant charge ah man for watching a naked super model in d road if she choose to show herself. But if he decides to touch said model against her will, now he looking to get he balls chop off.

At the end of d day, it's an easy problem to solve, put a password on your internet box. lol. And who dont know how, could ask somebody who does.

If its public wifi, then that's great.

Like a Bmobile hot spot or a Cloud F Spot.

But if you sucking down five of your neighbours wifi. That's where the immorality comes in. Immoral is not the same as illegal. You can do many immoral things that are perfectly legal. lol

Imagine your neighbour upgrading their internet to Turbo 15 because they find it too slow. And surprise, even the Turbo 15 running slow. They calling Flow and cussin. Only to find out is because Mez slurping down their internet to download Barnie and Fraggle Rock DVD box sets.

Horribad.

Agreed, immoral and illegal is not necessarily d same thing, but how is one to know, what are moral open wifis, and which ones are immoral? (i know men like us will know lol). But the average joe, how they go know what is ok to use and what is not ok to use?

And :

The awesome tech in the slurp shouldnt be hampered because ppl cant use d tech they bought properly. If it have 5 moral open wifi's out there i want to slurp up, nothing wrong with that, so i shoudlnt slurp becuase you leave yuh wifi open?

That word shouldn't even be part of this debate.

What I want to know is which level of the OSI model this thing's channel-combining goodness working at.  Why?  Because it might be entirely possible to make one yourself.  :happy0203:
