Thought this was an interesting read for anyone wondering how the Surface RT compares to current Android tablets...

Final Thoughts
Right now, Surface is too buggy, expensive, and weird for any normal person to buy it. It’s going to be a total commercial flop. Surface Pro probably will be too (even if I totally want one). But I have zero doubt touch-enabled Windows 8 convertibles and tablaptops (tablets used mostly as small laptops) will catch on. Microsoft has done a hybrid touch / mouse and keyboard OS right. They’ll kill (or become) the Ultrabook. It’s going to take some time to get all the kinks worked out, but I have no doubts about the ecosystem growing around this platform, or the average person’s willingness to live in the Windows 8 world. It’s nice.

Interesting read.

Doesn't bode well for the Surface.

Sort of in no mans land at the moment.

Especially the RT.

As mentioned elsewhere....the full version is pricey but stands the best chance of being a proper laptop replacement.

Neither really cut it as a casual media consumption device where the current tablets shine.

For this rounds, it looks like you'll have to go Pro.

That's getting really niche. We will see if the deep pockets of MS can bring this one home.

If not 2014 ftw.

MS biggest problem right now is pricing.

...and the competition ain't much better.
The Dell XPS 12 I've been eyeing starts at $1200 usd.   Yikes!

Currently looking at the Sony Vaio T 13.3-inch touch-enabled ultrabook as a much cheaper alternative.

Yeah, what could be an expensive niche device for enthusiasts today....could be an "everyman" tablaptop in 2014

Faster, lighter, cheaper. GG No Re.

Time will tell.

i think the name of the article says that you should take it with a pinch of salt to eh...

will still give it a read but would take something from a neutral person more seriously

Wyatt, 2014 is ah bit far, i think mid-late 2013 prices go drop dramatically, that 1000$ for surface pro now, go be ah lil 6-700 in no time. I expecting Surface Pro 2 around oct next year, and a new surface every year following that. Prices and Kinks go get drive down rel fast.

But like arcman pointed out, the competition not any better, all d boss Windows 8 hybrids out there, more expensive than d surface pro, and i think that is what go be d saving grace for d surface pro for MS. As much as it's expensive, it cheaper than d comparable alternatives.

And I don't think any of the alternatives gonna rip up in sales either.

That segment is a little before its time right now with current pricing.

Like SSD when they first hit. Too expensive for the lay man but everyone could attest to its prowess as the next evolution in storage.

That's the same vibe I gathered from the article and it aligns with my views on it just looking at the specs / form factor in theory. (in the previous thread, the Windows 8 / 9 thread I think it was?)
