Those have been around for AGES. Check http://www.linmodems.org . If that don't work, go to http://www.linmodem.org .

waggy get the chipset of your modem,then get the drivers for those and everything should work out.

I downloaded the drivers for ALL the hsf chipsets, including mine. And they didnt (each one). kept sticking at "initiating modem".

I actually don't believe in using half-modems. Externals always worked fine for me.

the modem probably a hcf modem,some modem have the same vendor identification.

Any external serial modem should work fine. USB modems: well, you got to check the Linux compatability first, zbefore you buy it.
