DARKSIDERS
« on: January 03, 2010, 09:51:33 PM »
Am I the only one hyped for this? from early reviews, this game seems highly polished, and gameplay seems pretty tight.

If ever there was a pure gamer’s game, Darksiders is it.

And the main character has more than a passing resemblance to Arthas of Warcraft fame

After playing the 360 one for a bit, I can safely say that this game is pretty damn decent. I don't buy any SP games so this is a solid rental for me. If this is any indication of whats to come this year then we in for a good year :D

Graphically it doesn't seem impressive at all, but if it's a good platformer (which I think the 360 lacks) i'd be willing to give it a go. The 360 is sorely lacking a God of War type franchise

I read some reviews on Darksiders that while the fighting system is well done, the platforming elements seem clunky. What is your opinion on it?

Also which Bayonetta version you got? The PS3 version is a crappy port of the 360.

so far the reviews have been quite promising. although im waiting on certain review sites to give their take.

so far the lowest is a 70
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/darksiderswrathofwar

as for bayonetta, the demo was very polished on ps3, and reviews seem very good as well

albeit a few technical issues. lowest so far is an 80.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/bayonetta

so far both seem worth it.

They are both excellent games. Its a matter of choice

Bayonetta

1. Japanese style game (down to the music)
2. Characters and storyline are very anime style.
3. Combat is FLUID and really fun to play. You can also break combo's which is something devs have to learn when making beat em ups
4. Character upgrades, gun upgrades a la DMC. This time however you get different weapons instead of upgrading guns alone
5. Some absolutely SICK puzzles to solve (not too difficult so far) with some very cool ideas.

Bayonetta has a REALLY interesting DMC style storyline. (it was made by the DMC, Viewtiful Joe creator Hideki Kamiya anyway). Some NICE polish in this game. Combat is so smooth and flows very nicely.

Darksiders

1. This is focused more on the US market for sure
2. American style post apocalyptic stuff
3. This game is a beat em up, but its somewhat quest driven (but dont think of it in the strictest sense)
4. It feels ALOT like God Of War with finishing moves, life/energy crates and climbing walls and fighting bad guys
5. LOTS of enemy types. Ive played the game for 1 hour and encountered about 8 DIFFERENT types of mobs already. THAT is impressive

Darksiders borrows from God of War and Zelda...which is not a bad thing. Critics seem to be chiding Darksiders because of its lack of originality. Bottom line, its FUN as hell. No one cares if its "original" they only care if its fun. You focus too much on doing something unique (Bionic Commando, Velvet Assassin, Turok, WET.....) you lose focus of the big picture. These guys are ON POINT. They stuck to the tride and true method and pulled it off nicely and managed to add some really nice visuals and polish as well. WAR can upgrade his weapon just like Kratos, and get other weapons, but can use some together to make alternate attack combos.  Bottom Line you like God Of War you gonna LOVE this game.

War is simply a BAD ASS...very similar to Kratos per se, but less of an "asshole". A nice storyline too. Very cool game.

been peyongin this last 2 days. lots of fun so far, that review was a bit harsh but it really doesnt do anything new, but what it borrows, works well for it.

also that review has too many spoilers, for those that care a lil bit for the story.

just beat this.

at first i was slightly dissapointed. it felt like a one trick pony.

but 4 hours in, it started to take off, and wow. this frickin game was a masterpiece. plain and simple.

extremly satisfying puzzles, decent combat, ok story, but the characters really made it work. its more like zelda than god of war and this game jus hit a sweet spot yes, an excellent balance.

and WAR IS A BADDASS. heck he badder than kratos imo. (that might be a bit much) but i definetly prefer this character.

im waitin on baited breath for a sequel.

9.9 out of 10

.1 out cause it finish (and story was somewhat convoluted)

and that ending...wow.

one word of advise, the combat is pretty easy, so play it on hard.

puzzles are the challenging part, but not frustrating pull out your hair kinda ting.

I have to agree with the positive reviews on this game. I picked it up as soon as I could have (2 days after it was released) and am not disappointed that I drove out of my way to get it.

I honestly don't care that it borrows from other genres since it does so very well and has a gameplay that it is nothing but fun. It takes from the best of Zelda and God of War and creates a game that is satisfying in all of its gory splendour. The story / premise is pretty unique and plays out quite well. Top notch voice acting and a well designed world suck you into the experience and make you want to continue exploring.  There is clearly going to be a demand for the sequels, and I will be first in line for the next installment. If you are a fan of the Hack N Slash genre, this is a must buy.

The only bad thing about this game are the slightly cartoony graphics, but that's a small complaint as it all seems to work well with the Zelda style world design. Its not gears of war 2 pretty, but no one cares when you're slaying demons on fiery horseback.

Darksiders Coming to the PC
« Reply #17 on: March 30, 2010, 06:42:34 PM »
Quote
Released earlier this year for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, Darksiders will be available for PC gamers to enjoy in all of its apocalyptic glory this summer. Developed by THQ's in-house studio Vigil Games, this version of the game is being meticulously crafted to deliver the same great art style and dynamic game play to a whole new audience.

Travis Plane, Vice President of Global Brand Management commented, "We are delighted to be able to bring Darksiders to the PC. THQ is focused on bringing great product to the PC gaming audience so it was vital that we allowed Vigil the time to optimize the title for the PC platform. We hope PC gamers experience the same thrill and get the same level of satisfaction assuming the mantle of WAR as the console audience did."

David Adams, General Manager of Vigil Games commented, "We are really excited to have the opportunity to bring Darksiders to the global PC audience. We feel that the growth of digital distribution and PC online communities creates a great environment for our game. We are working really hard to make sure that key features such as user-defined resolutions, interface and both keyboard and game pad control sets are all up to the standards for today's discerning PC consumer."

so i speant 13 hrs of the last 2 days and i beat this game out (on PC)

The storyline was pretty good. Its a pretty game indeed. The fighting system was a bit too much tho. Complicated that is.

I describe this game as a mix between god of war, zelda, soul reaver, portal and prince of persia. Next time Steam having a good sale and u gettin this game cheap, i saw go for it
