Graphics Card Price Performance King? ATI 9800 SE.
« on: May 16, 2004, 09:24:15 AM »
When it comes to price performance.....who is king?

I present to you, once more...the ATI 9800 SE

http://www.digital-daily.com/video/ati-rad...0se/index06.htm

Respectable performance @ stock.....surpassing the Nivida 5900 when software modded. Some retailers boast a 60-70% chance at a succesful softmod.
Yes, you read right....the RETAILERs are saying that. lol

This thing gone mainstream.

Can't ask for better than that.

buying the 9800se and planning to flash it is like bying a 50 year old car and planning to turn it into an owning racing machine with an engine you stole from your uncle..

if your lucky.. know what your doing.. and have good cooling... it will work..

but considering the 9800 non pro is only 40USD more, and it can OVERCLOCK to 9800 pro speeds, and flash it too for more peformance.

you're not flashing anything. It's just a software mod, a driver.

No know how required.

Just install the driver and crossfingers.

Either way, you're getting good performance for the power without OVERCLOCKING.

Warranty still remains fully intact.

But if the 9800 Pro is only US$40 more, then it would be worthwhile to get that card instead.

I figured it would be about US$70  more.

actually right now i would rather wait, ATI will have new cards on the way in the -200 US catagory, the'r supposed to be as fast as the 9800 pro.. and if they are based on the same process as the X-800s we will be able to o/c reaal nice.

plus, all the 9800s need a power connector, and for people who already use alot of power, and have a weak PSU, it would be cheaper to get one of the new cards.. [ not supposed to need a molex connector because of smaller chip/lower clock ]

So I would be led to believe that the software mod activates the 4 pixel pipelines that are dormant in the 9800 SE and that a 128Bit memory interface even with all 8 pipelines enabled can surpass the performance of a normally 8 pipeline, 256-Bit 5900?
Call me a skeptic but I just don't see that happening

9800XT boi!

9800SE is the performance king ONLY IF you can find it for less the 140 USD... or if u can get it cheaper than the 9800 pro and it is flashable without issues

PCI cards cannot handle things as well as same spec AGP....

slower bus + it is on the same bus used for the HD interface and everything esle = VERY SLOW

and they normally use substandard parts since they are already so slow...
