folks i have a recently built pc, thses are the specs:
Processor: Amd x2 7750
Memory: 4gb ocz blade series ram
Harddrive: 500 gb seagate
Graphics card: Msi ati hd 4830 512 mb
Power supply: Corsair cx 400w
Motherboard: Asus N-68
Case: Cooler master elite 300
dvd drive

whenever i am 3d gaming the pc shuts off randomly. whether its 5 mins into a game or 2 hours into a game. i don't think my video card is overheating because sometimes its shuts off a little while i being gaming.

any ideas? i think it could be the power supply but i know the powersupply is of high quality and was recommended by bittech for a higher build system.

It happens with both windows vista and 7 so i doubt its a software issue

i was having this same problem, issue was the psu, it could be defective, try another psu and see if issue fixed.

Could be many other issues, but that solved mine. Brand doesnt matter, could be a defective one u got.

update, i have a forza surge protector and it trips everytime it happens

could this happen because of the outlet?

I also believe it is the psu, had similar issues in the past with new builds and everytime it was due to defective psu. Is the machine stable when not gaming? You tried stress tests such as cpuz etc?

tha power supply test real demanding i now read on the site that some powersupplies does die from it. can't risk that nah.

it ain't shut off since i change surge protector. will update if anything new

do some stress tests for cpu and video card for an extended period.

i had this issue not to long ago , thought it was related to steam
but turned out to be a vista issue creating errors on my hd

did a good bit of hd error checks and vista error fixing via the cd
fixed the problem

If you have not checked already, ensure that the power connector from the mobo to the PSU is firmly in and secure.

Or ensure that your PSU has sufficent amps on the rail that is giving the video card power.

Philo had a holy Sh!t problem when he had bought his GTX 260 and it was because the PSU was lacking enough amps to supply the juice when called for by the videocard. He had to get a bigger and badder psu.

My finger is pointing to the PSU.....Just my 2 cents.

I have had similar problems. I have 2 questions . What kind of games . Mmo or p2p anything like that ? That and what kind of firewall do you have. These are relevant because i have a few educated guess what can cause that other than the power supply.

it was with any demandin game

since i changed surge protectors it has not shut off yet so i gues i solved it

I suggest that you invest in a 'proper' UPS. Proper, as in one that your PC can monitor via an attached USB/serial cable.

Then look no further than APC.

Its a bit pricey, but believe me, the peace of mind is worth it. Lots of nice features too.

Hey i have an issue... Friend of mine pc i built is shutting off 5 secs after it boots... Taken the board out the case... changed power supply, ram, video card, removed all connections besides mobo power jacks and same issue... Once power is supplied to the mobo it immediately comes on and cuts off after 5 secs. If the ram is left out and power applied i get the 3 beeps suggesting ram problem. Otherwise no beeps........Any suggestions???

processor, is teh fan spinning on teh processor?

did you place the heatsink on it in the correct direction? ive heard that amd processors do silly stuff like turn off if the heatsink is in the wrong direction.

Its been running 2 years now... Jus stopped starting and cutting off after a few secs... Only thing i have yet to do is reseat the heatsink to see if its temps getting to high... but those intel stock sinks hold really good in place so i doubting
