Hey guys , ive played most of the games im about to list at a professional level. If ur into this genre kind of rts top view , multiplay online battle arena MOBA . you might be into these games i posted her.
EVEN IF UR NOT. these games all touch seperate genres enough to peek interest from fps to even mmo .
We all know about Heroes of newerth and League of legends so moving on.
Bloodline champions. Excellent skill based , easy to pick up, fast paced ,action packed , wow arenaish gameplay.
Currently closed beta pm me for beta keys
Bloodlinechampions.com
S4 league . Marvellous stylish fps mmo elements shooter. recently saw a friend on msn playin this, couldnt help but redownload . Great character customization and unique weapons and ability combos as well.
Currently free alaplaya.net
Land of chaos 3d mmo ish fps dota. This was fun when i tried it but they have to work out bugs but excellent feeling like first person dota
Trailer+gameplay

Pretty comprehensive.
What about the MOBA that GAS Powered Games put out?
Played it for a little while, had potential but fell short of the mark. Real solid graphics though.
The name slips me at this time.
OK, found it:

aahhhh nice. i knew there was one i was missin. demigod was crucial because it was actually before lol and hon. also as an attempted next gen dota . It made mistakes first so the other games could learn from it. yeah i tried it once , wasnt bad
I think ur question was what fueled the sudden rise in em?
Well The thing about dota is that no one , not even icefrog was collecting a pay check for it.Mind you icefrog is actually already wealthy. Blizzard wasnt racking in the dough either. So here we had basically a new genre and no one taking credit and taking money for it. Dota is actually one of the most popular pc games ever and it wasnt a game , it was more successful than the platform it was on lol.
Im sure u guys remember the point where ppl buy/dl wc3 just for dota lol. So mostly newer companies , ppl who grew up and helped form the genre decided to start making games since it was a fairly simple concept with amazing possibilities. there are lots of legal stuff between ice and blizz but as far as we know blizzard never approached ice also its said dota is owned by blizz even though it had third party creators because it was made on their map editor.

the story is very similar for counterstrike
dota is like the counterstrike of the RTS world.
And the story is likely to follow the same path.
One thing for sure, its a genre thats here to stay and I'm not complaining. Just need more time to test drive 'em all.
Lotto!

Funny at the mention of counterstrike.
Apparently, Icefrog is now working on DOTA 2.0 at none other than VALVE.
If anyone else knows the value of a mod, it's VALVE. Not to mention, they've got the perfect platform to deliver such a creation in the form of STEAM.
gg no remake
