Gears of War 2 (PC) ....not....

Quote
Epic Games won't be bringing Gears of War 2 to the PC. That's their story and they're stickin' to it. It's "definitely" not happening, swears designer Cliff Bleszinski, pointing to a worsening PC gaming environment.

"The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know [BitTorrent] to know all the elements so they can pirate software," says Bleszinski. "Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC."

So he's basically saying then that only casual games should be made for the PC.

[sarcasm]
Everyone who buys a game system (pc/console) should be checked out so that if they too smart, and if they are they should not be sold it because there is a chance they will pirate the games.

Hang on Trini pirateers......the first part is already in place. Watch all these pirate stores get their @ss handed to them in 2 years.......SONY/Microsoft ALREADY on the Caribbean ass.....and i hope u have 10k US to spare.

It is sad that games are so expensive in Trinidad, and the Caribbean has zero effect on the videogame sales worldwide, but piracy for profit is something that needs to be purged.

All those men that spend X dollars to upgrade a PC and then pirate games....c'mon fellas...i would imagine if you spend THAT much money on a system you would want the "proper" title in your drive other than some black marker bullsh!t that has patch 1.0 on it and cant even function on a LAN properly.

You REALLY think they didnt release it that way on purpose? and THEN release the working patch 1 week or 2 weeks AFTER it is capable of being acquired? Pirating for profit on PC has been around since the dawn of PC gaming.....but honestly this bullsh!t needs to stop.

I kinda agree.  Kinda.

If not for piracy we wouldn't have all the bulls#!t DRM to deal with, but then I wouldn't want
to have paid for a game that turns out to be a steamy pile.

some of us do
i not saying i buy every title i ever play, I can't afford that, but the ones that i really enjoy i also own if only to say i did my infinitesimal part in supporting it.

Then again, i suppose is just as bad as getting hit with the drm bullet. (ala the recent spore and crysis uproar)

I kinda agree.  Kinda.

If not for piracy we wouldn't have all the bulls#!t DRM to deal with, but then I wouldn't want
to have paid for a game that turns out to be a steamy pile.

gimme ah chance to finish type nuh...:P

was gettin to that.

I recently saw crysis on sale in steam some weekend deal or pre-order thing, one of them.10% off. woulda have been about 25US, that's what <200TT, nearly jump on it cuz i enjoyed the 1st game (i like jumping 20ft in the air and stomping ah man out, lets not discuss it here)

like all purchases i went to do meh research i knew very well about the DRM sh1t since it all over the internets, i though, "they wouldn't put that in steam too...i mean...steam IS its own DRM after all" i was wrong like whoa! on steams own forums they state that the SAME DRM is in it as well as a CDKEY (which you never even see) with the same type of install limit thing (though i would think is more of a System change limit).

this turned me off one time.

about a week after i check the forums again...the amt ah horror stories i see, one man even had the game say he was trying to steal/the install was invalid..suffice to say i ended up acquiring it, and i could tell you now, for the price it is worth it if you enjoyed the first.

SO! what all that rambling have to do with this?

I would like to know; (open question btw)

1. Would you rather buy the game on a console DRM free?
OR
2. On the PC with DRM up to yuh balls?

The way i see it Epic made a choice, that was they rather not release the game to PC with DRM and have to deal with the backlash of consumers and possible lawsuits.

I could be wrong but that is what it seems like to me

I just doh understand why they have to insult ppl intelligence

PS. if i had to i would choose the console, i use my PC to often to worry about the potential security risk of a root kit in my system

feel free to shed light on this if you can.

I think the DRM issue actually INSTIGATES piracy.....so there must be another way to deal with this issue

1. You just STOP making mc PC games, like Epic has decided to do with some titles.

If a company cannot make returns on their title they cant make the income to make another one, they go bankrupt and we all know the rest. If people have not noticed this is happening quite often! its called "mergers" which anyone with any kinda of business or economic background know its a power move or the company about to go under.

Of course you can get a ton of reasons why they have merged but the point being that somehow this company is no longer able to fund their own products and require more than a producer to create a title.

2. You just BURN the living hell out of piracy.

However this is easier said than done. You can crackdown on certain piracy groups, scare the living daylights out of their competition and force them into early retirement. However, doing that appears to be a huge problem for whoever is doing this. Either money talks or bullsh!t walks.....or both.

PC games dying? Hardly.......not even. You always gonna have PC games, its the easiest platform to make a title for, and its free to make most of the time as well. EPIC titles for the PC being reduced? Absolutely! And you are seeing this happen right now! A title would be on PC first! then make its way in a watered down format to Consoles. Now its being released in tandem with the consoles! And as you can see by the direction companies are going with DRM, guess which platform is getting the returns?

Now gamers are VERY opinionated, they are quite knowledgeable as well......most of the time. However sometimes you can see someone flame a forum on why they pirate a game with no apparent reason!...which is FINE.....gamers play games, if they like they like, they dont....well bleh. They dont have to give a reason that is how "they feel"

on the OTHER hand.......DESIGNERS have to figure out why the hell alyuh like or doh like the game.

if you noticing companies make a game.....advertise or say wth they want to market it....."omg this is awesome....best game evarrr" and probably also really think so....only for gamers to play it and say "wtf is this???"

my point? There is no WORKING business model in this industry right now....there is NO business model for FUN.....nobody knows WTF fun is! because mine and yours are very different.

When they drop 35 million US on a title and it doh sell.....what u think goin  to happen? they FIRED!....serious......ALL ah dem. Guess what happens when it DOES sell......but 50 percent of the ppl playing it are priateers? THEY GET FIRED! because they eh gettin returns!

so they initiate phase 1.....this new BS DRM.....which they gonna SOON realize is a VERY bad idea.
They gonna pull the idea say "oh sh!t we sorry dred" and then do some OTHER crap

I bet they siddong in a room friday night and say "aye lewee put 3 installs on the MC game....i mean it hadda be SO good...who "teh fck" goin to install it more than once??" when SPORE is a FAMILY game......it look like they "Wii" the living daylights out of this game boy. I mean.......is a game for 5 year olds dread......it just overly simplistic. So you tell me.....this demographic goin to KNOW that they can only install the game 3 times? hell no! they gonna find out the hard way........REAL cuss....and NOT buy the mc game again

They not goin to say "oh gosh darnit....i think i need to buy another game for the folks!'...hell ..no...

Actually i know about 15-20 people who bought SPORE here.....and NONE of them are happy with it....they want their money back. Not because of the DRM....which they found out about after and get even MORE vex...but the game is just a pile of @ss.....is like EA tell Will Wright. "Hey buddy! Wii is the way to go man! lets turn spore on the PC into a Wii....."

the result........FAIL!

I STILL dont think people should profit from pirating games.......not RIGHT NOW. If it DOES escalate...i will say go strong......but i think if it does.......PC gamers are going to have to worry ALOT more than just pirating games

the "PC games go always be around" statement is right!......the details of the EPIC titles being there......that is another story.

wanna sweeten this pot? check this

The PC rumor mill started to catch on fire earlier this afternoon with info that Gears of War 2, the critically and commercially acclaimed title from Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios. According to one website, there were plenty of details that appeared to be pulled from an upcoming press release and even a preliminary box shot with the Games for Windows logo stamped on the front and limited edition details.

If this were true, this would be a large boost to the seemingly dead Games for Windows platform, particularly after a non-existent showing at this year's E3, where none of the titles shown displayed the banner or Live logo on the box. Landing a large title like Gears of War 2 would be an excellent game for PC owners, and it would also seem to be in keeping with the release of the original game on the PC as well: the first game came out on computers a year after its release on the 360 with a few extras. The supposed release date of the PC version, according the website, is December 4 of this year.

We contacted a Microsoft representative for comment, and received this reply: "Gears of War 2 is a great franchise for the 360, and so we are putting all of our attention into making sure that it stands out on that console. There are no plans to bring the game to the PC." Will this position change in the future? Currently, it doesn't seem likely. But if anything changes, we'll be sure to bring that information to you as soon as it becomes available.

Do you guys think it's legit?

the description for the product seems to be copied from an Xbox 360 product description. plus with the folks at Epic strongly saying before that they won't release this title to the PC.. hard to believe this. But if it is actually true, i welcome it with open arms!
