I like how it was mentioned, and quite rightly, that the churches condemnation of ole darwin, was comparable to what they did to poor galileo for daring to look at ye stars and planets and go.. zomg the earth isnt teh centorrr.

aint that a lil overboard arc, I mean I'm no fan of it, but used properly religion can be an effective tool of control...even if you overlook that, our basic morals and laws are derived from religious principles.
It's got its cons, but its got pros too.

This may just be the small step they take toward accepting, instead of tolerating, ppls beliefs.
For the church to say it wrong is a big day.

you will see that its less a real sincere apology and acceptance of scientific truth and more a way for the church to distance itself from the crazy zealous creationist bunch and a way of making themselves look less like crazy old fools in a new modern society.

They waited 200 years to apologise, thats no apology and it was rightly pointed it, its equal to what they did with Galileo, waiting 400 years to "apologise" to him.

But indeed hopefully it will allow society to move forward one more step.
The churches acceptance of Galileo's facts, removed the stigma that was attached to his science, and allowed mainstream acceptance of, no, the earth is not the center of the galaxy and removal of a host of old superstitions that were holding society back.

But this time, they arent really fooling anyone.

A bit zealous and ironically similar to how religious fundamentalists sound but I get the idea. I'm just saying that any atrocities people have created "because" of religion they'll pretty much do otherwise.

...and any time a religious institution admits that it's dogma and it's blind zealotry is "wrong" or counter-productive is a big day...but int the same breath... Who gives a s**t?

when its done for the name of religion, they claim moral high ground hax of +10
and divine instruction of +infinity ergo their actions are not bad...
thats why its more dangerous than simple ills.
