SSL Certificate CSR; a quick question

Hi guys, I was instructed to generate a CSR for a new SSL Certificate. However, we already have the SSL cert. assigned to a core business server. If I generate the CSR, will it break or impede our operations?

i.e. if the SSL on my e-commerce site is to be replaced, would generating a CSR on the server hosting the site cause the existing "valid" SSL to become invalid, thus breaking the Secure Site?

I just installed an ssl cert using the whm. Process took a few mins. What are you using to install this cert?

If it is a similar process, you can put the site into maintenance mode and perform the update in the backend painless enough.

Generating the CSR and re-issueing the cert shouldn't cause any explosions. Again, this was on a whm backend on a LAMP site. (Linux Apache Mysql Php for the uninitiated)

not e-commerce... that was just my example... but same principle, site currently has a SSL cert. but we wanna switch to another one from a bigger vendor

Okay, so the solution was to create a Dummy Site on the same server, perform the CSR, after the cert arrives, install onto dummy site, then export and import onto proper site.
