DAYUM,

Samsung develops 256GB solid state drive

Samsung has developed one of the largest-capacity and highest-speed solid state drives to date.

CNET site ZDNet Korea reports that Samsung announced the development of a 2.5-inch, 256GB solid state drive (SSD) at the fifth annual Samsung Mobile Solution Forum in Taipei, Taiwan.

Typical solid state drives shipping in notebook PCs today have a storage capacity of 64GB.

With a sequential read speed of 200 megabytes per second and sequential write speed of 160MBps, Samsung is claiming some of the fastest SSD data transfer rates to date.

Here is one comment that I found particularly enlightening:

For those that are not ready for it... watch out... Lastly, my laptop now has two (2) SSDs inside of it. They are both 128 GB SSDs. And, I can now completely boot my system in less than 20 seconds. It used to take close to 4 minutes

or win lotto, whichever comes first. lol

but on a real, if this baby is out, you know that means the 64gb predecessor is gonna fall in price. likewise the 128gbs.

I dunno bout you, but a 128gb drive that boots in 20 secs and sips on a battery sounds hella good.

Heard people sound off about the finite lifespan of the flash technology but I think that would be offset by the speed and crash resistance. Just change laptop hd every 3 years to be safe.
