My take on this is as follows:
Option 1
If he ABSOLUTELY HAS TO buy something NOW then the Video card will be the single largest increase in REAL WORLD gaming performance fiah for 3DMark it's framerates we thinking.
Option 2
He can WAIT and save money for a proper overhaul
Option 3
If his gaming habits aren't going to change much in the time it takes him to accumulate enough funds to buy at least a 9600GT then the CPU and RAM upgrades NOW are a better forward looking approach as his platform will be ready for the vid card when the time comes. Not to mention the video card (the most expensive part) will be cheaper by then as well.

agreed
lol @ the 3dmark hating.
Come on w1n, won't you agree that despite all the pitfalls, 3dmark is the simplest route to appraising the gaming performance of a fellow member's rig.
It does the job in the apples to apples way with everything else remaining constant.
To be fair, if a machine is struggling in 3dmark, it will be struggling in demanding games. If it wtfpwning in the benchmark, it will wtfpwn in the games of the day as well.
Not so?

Ok then hear what, we still seem to be forgetting PRICE here lol so let me show you what things come up to (yes I don't have a job plz refer to redfish needs a job thread in rum shop)
Arcman that video card will be just about $1000tt correct me if I am wrong which I do not have to spend on a video card.
the 4600+ is gonna cost around $600tt which is not that bad(provided I get what I have s old at a good price)
about $303tt for the ram is not bad, didn't see that one but W1ntry directed me to some other ram that is slightly cheaper, well actually will come up to around $270tt so I may go that route since I'm on a budget tighter than a virgin's snatch lol
So unless someboy can help me get a job to get the funds I'll appreciate that quite alot but for the while the 4400+ on newegg for 63us looks like my kinda price approx $400tt
I don't have to get the shiney fast expensive goodies now, just taking an opportunity to get a couple things as the friend is coming down next month.
Thnx again guys, I'm really now getting into the parts with the mixing and matchin so bear with me. When the big overhaul + funds come then we can really quarrel about what I should get

lol...points well taken. CPU and RAM it is then.
Check Newegg carefully. You might actually stumble upon a nice CPU+RAM deal
if you look hard enough.
EDIT: found a
bess CPU+RAM Combo
on Newegg self...and that RAM VERY BESS TOO.

nice find arc.
Redfish, don't forget my very first post to you in this thread!
Do not feel pressured into making a "hasty" purchase simply to take advantage of a family member flying in to the country.
You can pool your hard earned $$ to get some game worthy components when you're good and ready.
Importing them won't be a problem here.

Red, I know just how it is when you want to upgrade but are frustrated by lack of funds. Trust me, I was there.
But the system you got now is not half bad. I say wait a bit until you have a portion of paper and do a complete system overhaul. Ditch the amd quick and go for intel. If you had a better board on which to base the system, I would have recommended and upgrade, but that board is as low and pitiful as it gets. Ditch that fass fass.
Intel is VERY cost effective now. Both overclocking board and CPU can be had for a little over $1000tt and another $1000 for your video card.
So you see, with just $2000tt you have a killer system.
If you must upgrade your current system, it makes no sense doing only cpu and not video and vice versa. You'll want a dual core, even the slowest dual core available these days (is it the 4200+?) will suit you fine.
You'll want to have a balanced system. A great card and retarded cpu wont give you that. make no mistake, most games coming out now ARE multithreaded so you WILL see a difference over the single core.
Remember, Cheerios is the best cereal around period. Accept no substitute. See box for cheerio pie recipe.

That's really a good deal Arcman and Noob I have not forgotten what you posted don't worry. Any help I can get finding parts when the time is right will be greatly appreciated.
I'm not pressured at all I just don't want to sit around waiting for funds to build up at the end of the year when I have a bunch of games I can't really play on average settings because of a crappy processor.
So I am taking the opportunity to go Dual Core so I can AT LEAST have a little satisfaction till I can romp with the big boys lol.
Yes Cap I know my board blows and so does the processor. I really do intened to go Intel all the way on a Gigabyte board in putting together my beast sometime in the future.
I'm going iwth the 4400+ DC and 2gig ram upgrade.
Will let y'all know how things go if I do get them at all sometime next month.
Thanks again guys
Ya'll may soon see a 3200+ Athlon 64 XP and 1gig Kingston DDR2 ram for sale in the trading post soon lol
