Just downloaded and played a demo for a new game called Tarr Chronicles. Fans of Freespace and the recent Battlestar Galactica demo
will like this one. Its from a Russian developer called Kvasar Studios.
More info
here.
look some screens:
There are a few little hiccups during the gameplay, mostly when transitioning from cutscenes, but for the most part, the gameplay
is silky smooth. The screens don't really do the game justice. Its really a beauty to look at, and its easy to be distracted by the wonderfully
rendered nubulae, planets, and galaxies in the background, and not notice the missle impact warning blaring in your ears.
Of course, all these new games should now come with a 'lack of PC uberness' warning. Not sure what the minimum specs are, but seeing
as there's a whole lot of dynamic lighting and particle effects going on, its a safe bet that anything under a 6600 GT (PCIe) may have some
trouble. Interestingly though, that there is nowhere in the options to set your desired graphics level. My guess is the demo is optimized
for a range of systems. This demo is actually a good way to test your video-card. I'm seeing an average fps count of 80 fps at 1440 x 900.
Judging from the pics, I would say that AA is off for this demo.
Its supposed to be available already, or very soon. 'Acquirerers', start your engines...
