A fundamentalist church pastor had sex with two of his teenage daughters to educate them on how to be good wives, a South Australian court has heard.

The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named, was today sentenced in the SA District Court to eight and a half years jail after pleading guilty to seven counts each of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

The sex took place at various locations including in a shearer's shed, a paddock, on the back of a ute and, on one occasion, at the girls' grandparents house.

The man told the court the sex was not about fulfilling his desires but about teaching his daughters how to behave for their husbands when they eventually married, as dictated in scripture.

In sentencing, Judge David Lovell said the misrepresentation of scripture used to justify the abuse of the girls "defied belief", and that he had "hypocritically betrayed" his religion and principles.

"You said the acts were about learning about sex rather than engaging in the acts of sex," Judge Lovell said.

"I do not accept that.

"You treated your daughters as your property ... using them to satisfy and gratify your sexual urges."

Judge Lovell gave full credit for the man's guilty pleas, saying he was genuinely remorseful and had a good chance of rehabilitation as his wife and the church remained supportive.

The man will be eligible for parole in four years.

Next time, get your facts straight before you start quoting something like the Bible.

God doesn't condone incest. As a matter of fact, he outright condemns it, as highlighted in Leviticus 18. I don't really have the time to thumb through the Bible and pick out the exact quotes right now, but take a brief run through and you should run across a section of people you can't have relations with.


Now, as for the priest....hm. Well, from the looks of things, I'd say those girls are well 'educated' by now. That whole 'I did it for God' statement, though....didn't the 9/11 hijackers have a similar credo? I'm beginning to wonder if these sick bastards are really doing it for God, or just using God as an excuse.

My apologies for any stereotyping, NEO. I however have extreme contempt for people who use Christianity (or any religion for that matter) to serve their own selfish needs or justify their behavior. I have come face to face with it a tad too often now. When you have people who say there are "more Christian" than you and then want to tell you "the blood against you" (an ignorant statement I am yet to find in the bible! I deem it a 'Christian' way of cursing someone), that irks me to massive proportions.

HYPOCRITES, I call them. The bible somewhere makes reference to "everyone hates a hypocrite" or something.

I am Christian myself (with no affiliation to any particular religion at this time) and I will blatantly state that I am no saint. But I'm not going to use religion/christianity as a mask/justification for my sh*t. Someone who does something like Mr. Pastor here and then cries, "I'm a man of god, you must forgive me." I just not firgging buying it!

It is not acceptable for a so called Christian person to do unspeakable things onlt to say that it was in the name of God and be pardoned, or given a slap on the wrist (which is exactly what this pastor got. Eligible for parole in 4 years??) for their wrongdoings. If someone else, a non-christian person were to do something like this, you wanna bet that he would have gotten a hellofalot more punishment than what this pastor got? It's not fair to other law and religion abiding Christians, and it certainly not fair to the rest of us, ESPECIALLY to his daughters who had to undergo what they did, who are the real victims in the whole situation. I can't imagine the kind of psycological damage that has been inflicted upon them.

Religion isn't so bad in itself , its just that it has way too much control over humanity .   Alot of our problems are because their definition of 'morality' isn't realistic , condom use for example , would help lower the spread of AIDS and teenage pregnancy.

But seriously, religion is always used as an excuse in anything that has been done wrong in this world because it is the perfect escape, religion is based on MAN's insecurities about life and existence here on this little blue marble we call earth, heck why not use it to explain his atrocities and wrongdoings in the name of G@d. Religion is taken too literally by people who really do not understand how the world works, it's a shelter to hide from the truths in the world. It has become a twisted abomonation that people use to their advantage, be it financial, their sick sexual needs, or to explain their twisted mentality to kill innnocent people. I say live right by everyone, be considerate, care for others and the environment and we will be good to go. Life is too short to waste on religion, live your life to the fullest, enjoy what you are given and work for and everything will be fine. I am a Roman Catholic, not practising, but my belief is that once you treat others like you want to be treated and you take care of your family and others who need help, then that is what life is about.
