GeForce 8800 Ultra Review
« on: May 01, 2007, 02:36:33 PM »
Time to start speculating:) i cant wait!! isnt the R600 supposed to be out tomorrow as well? somn fishy about this, but G3D is a trusted site. i can see through the static bag close to where the fan is and the card looks a lot like the rumoured 8800Ultra

The 8900 ultra is the card thats supposed to launch tomorrow while the R600 is arded to launch on the 14th. Some fool started a rumour that R600 release is tomorrow but this has been confirmed to be false. No matter how I slice it, any of the x2900 cards will go for over $400, well above my $300 cut off point for a vid card which is why I didnt wait for its release.

Read another review on this card earlier I think it was Hard ocp or one of them did it Basically the ultra is just a insanely overclocked version of the GTX that delivers no real performance benefit over it's GTX bretherin. Bragging right card is what this is.

I dont know what DAAMIT story is really with this r600 but it will indeed be interesting to see how much better the 2900xt will be than the 8800gts 640. I also wanna see just how much the 320mb version will drop by when 2900xt hits.

Well it is a price drop on the 8800GTS 320MB I am definitely counting on; so I will await the arrival of DAAMIT's champion before I buy my next video card.

Unfortunately Sax, you may very well be sadly disappointed if the price doesnt drop by much. I for one will not be surprised. Why you scream? As far as I can see, DAAMIT doesnt have a card that directly competes with the 8800gts 320 niche @ the ~ $300us price point. There wiill be competition for the 640mb version up by the $400 point in the x2900xt which could possibly drive down those units, however not necessarily driving down the price of th 320mb ones and if prices are indeed reduced, I won't expect the price to go down more than a max of $10/15us

What unknown has said is true in a sense. There isn't a sub/300USD X2900 card atm. However I am sure a 256MB version is in the works with various partners. The question of whether a cheaper card with less memory will perform as well as a cut down GTS is questionable, but I figure if they maintain the clock and use GDDR3 at a lower clock and maintain 512, they may STILL manage to drop the price to that of the GTS 320. Time will tell. However I do foresee them simply leaving the price slightly higher cause let's face it, if you have to pay 40USD more for a card that is say 20% faster, wouldn't you?
