Networking / Re: HP Thin Clients

You are quite right, that is the way it 'should' be done.  Unfortunately the company undertaking this 'upgrade' is still operating as if it's 1990 (in terms of IT management)!  The main issue with deploying these units is that each unit requires a unique configuration to connect to a mainframe system so 'common' deployment is not an option.  When I first started deploying Neoware thin clients (over 10 years ago) it was much simpler to manage than these new HP units.

I am a little confused.

Thought the whole idea behind thin clients is that they are centrally managed and do not require updating individually on the workstation side?

Did a roll out with linux ltsp and that's the way it worked. Booted straight off the network.

Anyone familiar with deploying, maintaining, monitoring and updating large quantities of HP Thin Clients?  More specifically HP t5550.

We usually deploy small quantities so we setup and configure individually.  But we are looking at changing out 40 units, so I am looking for a more efficient solution.

Well I am still around... still duel on occation for fun... I hope to make a re-appearance at a tourney one of these days, but not to compete.  If anyone in Central is looking to practice my traditional decks are always ready, just call to make a dueling appointment first.

If you want to at least understand what the hell he's talking about, it'll probably take about 10-20 mins to go through the basics.
Or about 45 mins if SPK does it at 'normal human speed'.

To be honest, I have been a complete a-hole when I first came here but now I'm really warming up to you guys and gals
I was only a partial a-hole when I first joined.... took me many years to be complete!  :pottytrain2:

So I'd like to get to know you better. If you don't mind stating, what you do, your marital status, any kids or anything of that
sort, It'll help me get to know you all better :happy0203:
I don't do anything, at least that's what the directors tell me.  I'm Married, 2 kids (1 deceased).  I'm also a former Drag Racer (prior to closure of Wallerfield).  :iroc:

I'm Ulti,
Teacher by Occupation,
Married,
One Kid on the way.
  Congrats on the kid.  :triplets:

Surely most women would go stark staring bonkers if they socialised down the pub with the geeky boys who talked about nothing but ASP, gadgets and gizmos, while sinking endless pints of real ale and guffawing like drunken idiots.
Ok, so I leave for a couple of months and this is what I come back to?  :shakehead:
Who headding down to the 'pub' later?  :happy0203:

1st Personal Computer was a Commodore 64 (1984).
1st IBM Compatible was a Spirit 286 (1987 or 88).

Although I did work with 8088 and 8086 PC's, though I never owned one.  MSDOS, IBMDOS, PCDOS or NDOS were the most common choices of OS for IBM compatible PC's in those days, but not the only choices!

I don't recall how many years I've been here (whatever 'here' was in all it's forms).  But I was looking to get back into the gaming scene after many years of absence.  Found GATT and eventually joined up.....the rest is all a blur.

( Chaotic's a better duelist but Rio's much luckier).
Try telling that to Maximus!  NEO made the correct choice.
