I have watercooling stuff which I never got around to setting up and now Im too old and tired too. When I get home I will make a list of the stuff I can still find. I know for sure I have a Rad Tygon tubing and connectors at least.

PS I suggest you only go 1/2 " for all your stuff.

u need to run prime for 24 hours to be verified as stable in benchmarking, some cpu are stable 23 hours and 30 minutes and just hard crash.

2t timing is about 3% difference so this nonesence people come with amd gets hit hard is false

>> u need to run prime for 24 hours  to be verified as stable in benchmarking, some cpu are stable 23 hours and 30 minutes and just hard crash.

#1 Stability is all relative. A system might not pass the so called "cpu stressors" for more than a few hours yet may never have a stability related crash in normal usage. It all depends on what your using the system for. That said its a good starting point.

#2 Prime isn't perfect. Passing Prime for x hrs doesn't mean 100% stable nor vice versa.

#3 The reason why 24hrs is picked...is because it represents a full day cycle. It is thought that only a full day testing is enough to test all possible normal environment variations. Which of course is also imperfect since there are more environmental  (and other) variables to consider. A single unusually hot or cold day can skew results for example.

>> 2t timing is about 3% difference so this nonesence people come with amd gets hit hard is false

If your benching mem bw intensive appz then it matters more than the "3%". If not, then it can impact everything from 0% to that "3%".

The point is, these values only really matters if your trying to push the limits. Which is what the people in here are trying to do no?
Therefore that "3%" does matter in this context. Otherwise you not get high performance ram in the first place. Most hardware upgrades are improvements (if at all) in small percentages like this. So its almost as important as say a cpu or motherboard upgrade in that context no?

"Performance is what makes MHz useful" (tm) Synth.

In general more agressive timings will net you greater overal performance vs raw Mhz.

By itself the % may not seem much, but when part of the sum of performance tweaks...it adds up and matters.

Btw you can get sued for having those graphs posted with no credit for source.

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Re: To the overclockers

Whats prevents o/cing from being serious is in this order:

#0 Fear factor - Tied in with Knowledge factor.

#1 Knowledge, Creativity, Understanding, Passion - Just cause you read something or technically aware doesn't mean you UNDERSTAND.

#2 Cost and Availability factor due to shipping costs, taxes, etc.

#3 Lazy Factor.

...i could go on but thats the gist of it.

Nowadays all ppl do is spend mucho $$$ on brand name or stuff they see on tech sites assemble then start pressing buttons. With all that they only manage average o/cs if that much...the scores while may be HIGH and ellicit a "wow" or two...are nothing special...Nothing someone else with same components and read a guide can do.

For this and a few other reasons I have more or less given up on o/c...since anyone with enough money can simply buy the "pwnage" title and seem a "l337 o/cer".

10
"The Venice series of A64s is known for high overclocks eg. 2.8ghz/3ghz at low voltages "

Will it never end..the constant overestimations and hyping. Why is it most the ppl that buy these "miracle" cpus you mention cant even begin to reach these clocks? Ive complained about this so many times...but you and others never listen.

@ bushman - std cooking oil will not work better than water using similiar level of parts. It will be hell to take the heat away from the oil.

Not to mention oil will void all warranty.

Cheaper? H20 cooling isnt as expensive as people make it out to be. You can build your own h20 setup. No need to buy expensive premade kits. H20 only expensive if you want PREMIUM stuff.

@ cdx - those memory timings are utterly digusting. Your far better off with tighter timings and lower FSB. BUT you can get best of both worlds ...run asynchronous. Those timings you could probably get away on an Intel but not AMD.

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / How good is this ?
« on: August 22, 2004, 11:10:47 PM »
AOC is used alot her nowadays cause they get 3 year support locally.   Its good for the cheapos...   But Viewsonic, Samsung, etc...all are another level... You get what you pay for is especially true here.

humm the system will not bottle nech since with pci-x u get almost 4 times the bandiwdth of agp 8x. all the card doing sli use pci-x

So processor speed don't count? So memory and disk subsytem dont count? All of these contribute...

Remember we are talking with respect to a SLI config...at that level all the rest of components had better be able to handle all that bandwidth!

With any system the key is to matching components. I mean its not logical to pair an X800 with a p3 500 is it? With SLI it will become alot harder to "match"...but then again no one saying you HAVE too, just it would make more SENSE too.

14
It all depends on your uses. There are good generic and bad generic as with all things. Even with brand name stuff you do occassionally get crap... but generally speaking, yes, you get what you pay for...or less.  You can always go cheap brand name...

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / When a Monitor goes bad ?
« on: August 22, 2004, 10:29:29 PM »

it COULD be my VIDEO card has been raped.... and i'd LOVE any excuse to get a new one.

i'm thinking of getting a much SMALLER  monitor... mines is currantly 19inch viewable.... a  17 or even 15 inch monitor would look better on lower resolutions because of less streching.... i would be able to get more FPS AND more IQ at the same time .

Well im rather surprised that someone actually made the link between res and stretching...and IQ...BUT,

that logic only really works well for viewing constant flowing images...like a video stream which isn't enhanced using say AA or AF...in other words the true edges are intact! (unlike in games!).

Each monitor has an "ideal res" where pixel definition is optimal given all other monitor limitations. For 15 its the lowest you can go...640x480. For 17 is 800x600 / 1024x768...and so forth.

But thats only half of it. Since image quality is highly subjective on type of monitor...for example shadow mask vs aperature grille...implementation of tech...among other factors.

Point is you'd lose more quality by having a low quality monitor than mismatching res. Unless ofcourse you do something really insane like on a 21inch you play at 640x480 or 800x600!

Btw, you only get more fps at lower res (unless you cpu is the bottleneck) Above it wasn't made clear what you were indicating.

In my opinion SLI is a waste of time unless u using the best of the best (Eg)>Current generation extreme user card>>GeForce 6800 Ultra or equivalent), got cash to burn and is an insaneeeee junky.

Indeed. The rest of the system would bottleneck it to hell, short of the very best...

I got one and it works fine " NEC 2500 " but i flash mind to " NEC 2510 " so it support dual layer burning now

you can do that ..cool...i am getting me one of these drives

Price difference nowadays is too small to be bothered with hacks...which void warranty.

Unless of course you already own the drive.

wait till everyting reach 16x

BUT THEN he will have to wait on 16x media...oh wait 8x media... makes no sense to wait as it will always have "faster" drives coming out.

Right now media support is way behind tech releases.

does anyone have this drive(liteon 411s) and is it working good ...i bought mine just over 6months ago and now i wont burn dvd or load in any.....i have always had problems with the drive in reading cds like it was not the best drive for cds .......and i also updated the firmware but still...now i need another dvd drive and i need recommendation...i dont think i want a lite on drive anymore so what should i get ....dual layer? ..or is it too early to get those?

Did you try cleaning the head?

Lasers can go bad/weak with age...still your probably just unlucky or burned a hell of alot of dvds/cds...

BUT you mention youve had problems reading from the start? It could be the drive not getting enough power...and by extension laser struggling...
try disconnecting all non essential hardware ps connections..or a big better psu...

Dual Layer, well media is way too expensive to be worth the trouble...And compatibility is poor to say the least. Though if you buying a new drive might as well get one since you not forced to use DL capabilities.
