I don't know why i bother as folks seem to be missing the fact that PC gaming is increasing, but continue a die hard hinging on hardware sales figures. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/04/why-pc-gaming-has-explodedAnyway, see you at the PC Gaming Funeral 2015, don't bring to much beers doh case me and you might be the only ones there.

Cant argue with the sale prices of a few games vs none sale pcining equivalents on steam
All good for the gamer i say
should be interesting pricing wars this year

Two varying views both with compelling arguments for both,
But lets be real, leveling the playing field on pricing? that's far far fetched seeing that i own both consoles and hunt for best price to see which platform i get games on
Time will tell how it will play out
We will have to see how things shape up later down and onto 2015 on the PC Gaming front

I think its way off track Spartacus, Point 01: Not disputing the fact that PCs have declined in 2013 as predicted by Gartner and others, one possibility is because people just aren't buying PCs because the ones they have just works (Half the world is still on Windows XP), the PC industry has just became bloated and lazy with no real innovation last few years as well, and as you rightfully pointed out, Tablets/Mobiles o was on fire that contributed to the decline. But the trend seems to have bottomed out, now that hardware makers have started innovating and ramping up, the same people that predicted the decline 2013 has new predictions, http://www.citeworld.com/tablets/22794/ben-bajarin-pc-market-better http://www.tweaktown.com/news/34800/gartner-pc-market-shrank-10-percent-but-growth-possible-in-2014/index.htmlIf you add in the valve systems into the fray, even better news. So i doubt the decline seen 2013 will be seen this year, Point 02: I don't think its fear to link the health of the PC gaming industry to PC sales, despite the pc sales decline PC gaming is climbed steadily at an alarming rate, most sites as pc gaming growth at 300% last year: http://hexus.net/gaming/news/hardware/60297-steam-continues-impressive-growth-face-pc-decline/Have you not noticed this year as well that the majority of the games announced for console have PC versions as well? and a lot cheaper two, i bought 3 games over the Christmas, Marvel Lego, Rayman and Fifa, each title on the xbox one was 60+, i paid 20 and under per title on the PC, I only picked up my Xbox One controller to play killer Instincts then switched to the PC for everything else Weather your PC will run windows or steam OS or what ever, you cannot deny the amazing growth despite the ruff year in PC sales, and its only on tract to get better in my opinion as the PC in general gets more easy to use in terms of obtaining and launching a game thanks to Steam, Amazon and others that now digitally distribute games very easily If PC Gaming was declining in proportion to sales i may have been a bit skeptical, but there is no real evidence of the demise of PC Gaming i can find, its so much easier to innovate on the PC platform and the future looks bright. Now I'm not saying that we may not see Declines in PC sales we may, life span of a PC is a lot longer than tablet/mobile devices, i'm saying that that doom and gloom continuous downward spiral is not the case. E.g. i'm upgrading this year and i may not do another upgrade for the next 2 years, will that contribute to another decline in PC sales next two years? possibly, will it affect PC Gaming? Nope

Well Guys, remember that room i said I was going to hand build myself starting last year in this post http://www.carigamers.com/cms/forums/index.php/topic,19787.msg293787.html#msg293787Fast-forward a couple months minus my life savings along with my two testicles and here we are: Started with a perfectly good Lawn Uploaded with ImageShack.comThen I wrecked it in the name of Home Theaterdom. Uploaded with ImageShack.comOnce the concrete work was done (the concrete work I had help with as i not good with concrete). i got started on the bear brick walls to build my 2x4 framing exactly one inch away from the wall Uploaded with ImageShack.comSpecial clips to bind the 2x4 framing to the ceiling to help with vibrations and sound pressure from the woofers 4 stud walls were built independent of each other secured to ceiling by the clips Uploaded with ImageShack.comThen i got started with the surface and insulation, the stud walls are stuffed with r19 insulation for thermal insulation and high frequency absorption, then one layer of 5/8"s ply, then 2 layers of 1/2" dry wall each layer with green glue compound for low frequency absorption Uploaded with ImageShack.comAfter that i built the riser to the rear of the room, also stuffed with R19, and two layers of 5/8"s with green blue and roofing felt in between. riser is 12" tall Uploaded with ImageShack.comSame goes for the stage to the front of the room, only difference is stage is 10" tall, and the stage is packed with sand instead of R19 to stop vibrations from the woofers. equipment going in compartments to the front hidden with panels I will build later Uploaded with ImageShack.comConduits for speaker wire, HDMI cables and power for equipment Uploaded with ImageShack.comwork on speaker columns for looks and to house surround speakers Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Well not everything have to break the bank.
Here is an HTPC/Gaming box I built for that media room I am building, this rig outperforms my current water cooled gaming rig in my thread.
CPU = Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 6 MB - $212.41 Cooler = Cooler Master GeminII M4 CPU Cooler with 4 Direct - $34.99 GPU = 2 x EVGA GeForce GTX670 FTW 2048MB GDDR5 - $754.74 Mobo = Asus MAXIMUS V GENE Z77 mATX DDR3 Intel LGA 1155 - $195.99 Memory = Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 - $67.99 PSU = PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W - $120.43 Case = Silverstone Tek GD07B Aluminum Extended ATX HTPC Case - $135.00 HD OS = Intel 330 Series Solid-State Drive 120 GB SATA 6 Gb/s - $127.39 HD Data = WD Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III - $98.15 KeyB = Azio Mini Wireless Thumb Keyboard - $39.99
Total USD = $1,787.08 Total TT = $11, 258.60
Realistically, Some of the things in the list are not even needed for a top of the line gaming rig, like the 2 GPUs/SSD/Case used etc. The listed machine will run any game decently and perform all my other PC/movie watching duties without a hitch.
Fyi, that keyboard i bought turned out to be shyit, I plug it in and once you get 2 feet away, the shyit stops working so looking a replacement for it.
No Audio or Display prices added as I wont be using the conventional PC monitor and speakers, i have pro grade Cinema Equipment for that which the PC will connect to for my Display/Audio bliss

I could build 3 of my gaming PCs, buy 3 PS4, 3 xbox one, 3 Wii U and about 5 games per system each and still have enough change to take my wife to Coco Reef in Tobago for a week.
WTF
Lol

So as mentioned elsewhere around the forums, decided to retrace my steps and return to a desktop for my HTPC.
Been considering this for sometime but Windows 8 forced my hand.
Upgraded my existing HTPC laptop to Windows 8 and unfortunately found it could not run my 52" LCD at any resolution higher than 1024x768. Lame. Updating drivers and such didn't help the situation.
It is a reasonably spec'd laptop (details below) Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz (T8300) 2GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 - 128.0 MB AD1981HD 160GB SATA HD
Moving on:
Enter the new HTPC
A full desktop running: 3GHZ Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM ALS880 (With Optical Out to Logitech Z5500) Nvidia 9400GT 512MB (DVI to HDMI to LCD)
Installed Windows 8 and voila, full 1920x1080 resolution restored!
Being a glutton for punishment, I am also going to throw on Ubuntu + XBMC on this HTPC to see how it compares to Windows 8 + XBMC
Wish me luck
Good Luck, how come you going DVI to HDMI? the card don't have HDMI outs to go HDMI to HDMI? on the Ubuntu version of XBMC, i dont think it support the new HD-Bitstream audio engines they just came up with where the wasapi drivers etc are built in for passing DTS-MA type tracks directly to DAC without decoding it, could be wrong though.

lol, I seem to have bitten the bug myself.
The misses resisting the heavy spending though so my modifications will have to be modestly priced.
Also, neighbours already under pressure with my Logitech 5500. imagine if I dropped in a sub like IsMe's lol.
They'll call EMA for my ass.
As mentioned earlier in the thread....the z5500 serves as a mini receiver in my setup. Planning to add a real receiver. Reason being, all my device could then connect via a single hdmi cable. At present I have a number of optical cables in the mix doing audio duty.
It works but makes for some messy cable arrangements and requires a 3 way optical switch when I want 5.1 surround sound from the consoles in particular.
Very reasonably priced but a little on the heavy side so the shipping cost could be out of control.
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-1312-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004U403S6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=OCD1CJVDOB4H&coliid=I2HQYZD24MM87R
Going to take a look around locally to see if there are any decent options.
Heard of a Sony with HDMI but it was out of stock in West Mall.
Recently threw Windows 8 on the HTPC but it shockingly didn't support higher than 1024x768 on my 52" display.
So that fast tracked my plans to replace it with a modern HTPC, one that can double as a living room gaming rig.
More on that later.
Boy that Meealy-HT-Bug bitin hard yes hehehe, Denon is make good stuff, it heave so cause of the transformers they use, this is one brand where the Wattage per channel on paper actually matches to tested real life values, they is buss yua head weight wise on freight ah wah?

nice new setup, enjoy building your new HT room, your always gonna be getting something new and tweaking, trust me,lol.I spend more time in mines tweaking and putting new stuff than watching movies
Since then i've gotten a Klipsch RC52 center channel, which perfectly matches my towers.Logitech Harmony Remote to control everything,Lighting automation control with a lutron maestro IR.Saving to upgrade my projector and screen. Not going 3d,but a very good 1080p one,sub 3k usd range.
Nice setup!, Yeah man its like a curse, always something to do in it the HT other than watch movies lol, The JVC-DLAx30 i believe is a sub 3K projector, the JVCs got some of the best black levels, Epson got some pretty descent offering to. Correct is right Chiney, Well after promising the wife that i am not going to unpack/play with the sub till the new room is built, as soon as she went on the road this morning i broke that promise after taking 2 hours to unpack because of the weight, here it is : By isme2003 at 2012-08-11 I then had the bright idea to play this track just to test it By isme2003 at 2012-08-11 After 13 seconds into the track as the house and its contents was shaking, i started to here crashing sounds, so i puased the track and started to look around the place By isme2003 at 2012-08-11 By isme2003 at 2012-08-11 And that's that, time to start making up my story as to why the ceiling fans are broke and what happend to a few glass and picture frames that fell of tables/walls and broke as well 13 seconds of happiness, a few months of bitchin and i told you so's My ears still ringing and i feel like i have a hang over now, but it was worth it

Did I just read write?? (see what I did there? lol)
IsMe upgraded his HT equipment, and it was so powerful that now he has to upgrade his house (that is, build a separate room to house it???)
Is this real life???
Yes meh boy, how yua like that eh? upgrade yua HT and have to end up upgrading yua house to contain the upgraded HT or it shake yua regular house apart Check dis, Walls on the room i have to build is reinforced concert 6 inch blocks for outer wall, inner walls is 2x4 framing with one inch gap from outer concrete walls, one sheet of 5/8s ply on the framing first, then this compound called green glue, then one layer of 3/4 sheet rock ontop the ply, more green glue ontop the sheet rock, then a final layer of 3/4 sheet rock I think is real life unless i trapped in an Inception virtual world
