PC Gaming / D00m 3 great game or great disapointment« on: August 27, 2004, 09:41:59 PM »
the comparison must be made, because the guys at ID must have played those games to see what they did well (and badly), and so would have most of the gamers who are going to play doom3.
i'm still in the middle of the game, and while i agree the atmosphere is fantastic, i was acutely aware of several really annoying things. why is there no lean command? why not give the marine some duct tape? or a shoulder lamp? (this has been left to the modders) why not actually make the weapons have some 'punch'? (they sound awful) how could they leave these things out when they are already well implemented in competitor's games? 5

Anime / Rasengan Vs Chidori« on: August 13, 2004, 02:36:55 PM »
we are discussing it because its happening in the manga in the latest chapter. if you read shinsagat's post you would have realized that.
i think that they would be about even, (for the story) but we know how the rasengan works because naruto's training detailed it, but its not clear what makes the chidori really tick.(kakashi has only explained it in simplistic terms) honestly i think its a bit like apples and oranges, each one is for something different. 8
PC Gaming / DS vs. PSP. Sony Vs. Nintendo now« on: August 13, 2004, 02:30:30 PM »
if i had the money i would get the the DS, because it is innocative, nintendo has alot more experience building handhelds, and there are many good games that are in development and are actually playable as of now.
WHEN sony ACTUALLY shows us working games on the PSP instead of looped footage, i may change my mind. cause its not about the specs, its about the games. 9

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Doom III performance tweaks« on: August 09, 2004, 01:58:34 PM »
http://www.tweakguides.com/Doom3_1.html
is useful as well - very in-depth i recommend setting in your shortcut properties, "YOURPATH HEREDoom 3Doom3.exe" +set com_allowconsole 1 +disconnect +set r_displayRefresh 75 allowconsole lets the console be opened with ~ instead of CTRL+ALT+~ disconnect disable the 'beating heart' intro movie display refresh locks the refresh rate so you dont get seasick, make sure your monitor supports the rate you want to use i dont recommend vsync. ATI owners may want to try the catalyst 4.9beta, but i'm going to wait on the final. 13

PC Gaming / Please advise« on: July 18, 2004, 12:51:27 PM »
well, in terms of steps, getting faster performance tips would be:
1. clean install OS, page file on its own partition, OS in another, program files (games) in yet another (optional: optimize BIOS if you are comforatable with it. no O/C yet. 2. disable unecessary crap in the OS. findfast, indexing service, messaging, unused protocols. visual styles. Lock the page file. 3. latest update and drivers of everything. 4. make a clean user account (not admin, although some games prefer if you are admin. if so then 'run as') for games. 5. Run benchmarks. Record them. 6. O/C and run benchmarks/mod hardware as necessary. 18
