It's already been checked - the only performance losses were present in a couple games, most ran at normal speed, and patches fixed slowdown in quite a few. The hardware that's polled is anything needing HDCP chips - vidcard, monitor and HD optical drive. There's no need to look for errant video signals unless hd drm encrypted (AACS) video comes into play - so unless you're gaming while watching HD movies from the same pc, it's unlikely it's going to affect you at all.
