Recommendations for a free music-file converter

Can anyone recommend a FREEware file converter for Windows that can easily
convert formats between each other, and maintain the tags?

I have some files in m4a format (yuck) that I'd like to convert to mp3 in particular.

i saw that service today..
u upload your file, they convert, and mail the result to you..
might be kinda REAL tedious if is plenty files tho, but if is a few, and yuh have broadband, i guess it could fly
