The Budget PC
« on: November 24, 2006, 12:08:49 AM »
I have to build a PC for my girl and i limited to the cost (<5 for everything incuding monitor and thing)
so i wha allyuh opinion on some parts, good, bad, in between whatever, i cyar order online although it would be best, from the research i do here are the parts i come up wid.

BIOSTAR AM2 GF6100 - 516.00
AMD ATHLON AM2 3800 - 928.00 ( i try to get the best processor >= 1000, doh even mention sempron, athlon 64 all the way)
256 MB DDR2 533MHZ NON ECC CL4 - 245.00 (X2 generic in dual, system bandwidth improved? :S)
NVIDIA EVGA 7300GS PCI-E 256 - 530.00 (woulda like the gt but it hard to find)

other not so essential

COOLERMSTR ATX ELITE 350 PS - 354.00 (real pretty case, though i replacing the ps for she with ah nspire 430W)
ah hdd and ah dvd-rw - 800

hit meh wid what allyuh think, she eh running no oblivion and thing so i figure this good.
more so i want any other system configs you all have in mind or change in mobo.

thanks in advance.

Firstly...wtmc @ building an entire pc for a girl. I hope she paying for it and not you.

2) Why buy a board with on-board graphics when you going the way of a video card?

3) Why go AMD at all when you can go with a e6300 for about $100tt more @ $1,100

4) Make the memory at least 512x2

5) Consider nv7600gt or x1600pro for a lil extra video oomph

Well, if is not for any kinda 3D gaming whatsoever, then it good for all other normal usage.
Normal= Surfing, CD/DVD burning/ripping/ watching/listening, working on MS Office stuff, etc

should have at least 512 Mb RAM though.  It WILL crawl with 256 MB.

the board support dual channel so is 256 X2

is not any girl is MY girl  ^_^

she bro does get on like ah real ass for the PC, so she wha build one, as a result she hate wow  ^_^

2)cost,these board have the requirements (AM2, DDR2 @ @least 800, and PCI-E) so i figure why not, i had  a ASUS m2n-e (not the sli one) on hold but i eh sure if the guy still have it i going and check today

3)i had no idea, seriously. I could get ah Pentium D for bout 800 2.8 GHz but again cost, if i have to go this way the board cost go increase cause i would want a board with the new nvidia chipset or the latest offering from intel make no sense buying a board and i can't use all the features of the chip (SpeedStep for example)
(The other reason is that i a lil partial to AMD)

4)hmmm...i was thinking that, i have ah gig and i does feel it slow

5)i have the 7300, and i hate it, but it good for normal multimedia crap and a little gaming (the card have the power but the memory width is 64 which bottle necks the whole thing). i go consider the x1600 pro though, i sure i could get one, i might buy this for her so she go be within budget.

oh one more thing, where in the F--k yuh getting that e6300 for $1,100 in TT, cause *I* interested.

i going window shopping, thanks for the info and advice, will post the updated specs soon.

why you can't get it from online?

If she isn't in a rush, we could bring in all the things you want and get a real beast for that $5000 budget.

Leaving only the monitor and case to be purchased locally.

the T force version is pretty decent, could handle serious gaming and somesuch, good overclockin and allows for highend cards.

but im seein you have the Geforce version that you wana get. errrr that board is mess from reviews ive read online

cant play games for very long, reboots often, some were DOA, serious overheatin issues etc

so please go for the TFORCE version is ya could. not the GFORCE.

hoss, first ting
de girl does sweat real game? no?
den wda yu stressing bout card an ting for??
just get good ram, decent processor, burner, fairly good storage, speakers monitor and yu good!

not gonna start no fan boy amd or intel thing, get a decent processor in the price range, get 512 or a gig of ram, thas the best value for a budget machine.
decent hard drive, 120 gigs or more.
and any budget card, ati or nvidia, doh matter.

i agree on the no sempron thing though, go a64 or hey PD or even conroe, since a e6300 is like 182 us
which is sub 1000 tt

This thread should be called "The $5000 PC" simply because you can still get something decent for $4000 (legal windows and all) or even less still..if you  willing to go with Celeron D or Sempron

That aside..I more or less agree with previous posts:

512MB DDR minimum
Athlon 64/Pentium D (Though a Sempron 3400+ socket754 is a 64-bit processor)
Geforce 7300 or Radeon X1300 or better (if not going with onboard graphics)
geforce 6100 chipset board at least
80 or 120GB hard drive
DVD burner (I see them going for as little as TT$250 here now)

btw Crixx, US$182 x 6 = TT$1092.....then add shipping costs (really, Crixx, that is very poor multiplication! on your part)
God is dead.

Athlon 64/Pentium D (Though a Sempron 3400+ socket754 is a 64-bit processor)

while sempron is a 64 bit is not just that, the L2 and L1 match (128) while the a64 is a 512, i eh saying the sempron bad eh, is just i eh going 754, make no sense that going the way ah socket a now anyway, but the chip i choose was the biggest mother for under a gran, i choose the 256X2 for the dual channel, increase the system bandwidth ah lil bit, so she eh go complain that she chobits chopping, and she could multi task.

not gonna start no fan boy amd or intel thing

you is that LAST man i wha get in ah AMD vs intel fight wid.  ^_^

i going call a few places now lata...

Go legal, yes, at least with Windows XP itself....  Open Source/free after that

*still remembers encounter with the BH cultists.......so-called "stoutly religious" couple over bootleg windows back in August... freaking idiots!*
(husband go tell me his wife is a "pest"... he really wasn't lying!)

and btw I have bought genuine XP Home locally for less than that still....

Firstly...wtmc @ building an entire pc for a girl. I hope she paying for it and not you.

I did that for my GF's christmas present. Told her I made her a painting. She thought that's what it was until i came close walking up holding the pc with the painted side facing her. Look on her face when she realized what it was - priceless ;)

That's her pc on top my own version of "The two towers". You can see the usb portable drive hiding between the 2 connected to her pc via usb as i load up sp2 and hotfixes.
Asrock board.
Yes - I painted the mouse. Cheap mouse from pricemart near Chaguanas flyover. I had bought a couple JUST to mod summer before when I was home.
My rembrant!

Back then AMD was the top dog, right now it's not - but it still wont make a difference to her. You get a decent chip for cheap, and she just wont know the difference. cache at 128 does hurt the hammer core, but 256Kb is ok. While core 2 is better (i dunno costs back home) If i were building a system for my fam or fiance NOW, i'd go with whichever company i could get cheap good boards and chips. The 6100 board is fine - reason to go with one, is it's cheaper than most nf4/nf5 boards. If your GF plays games i can see the need for a discrete card, but if it's just the sims, leave her with the 6100 :P

btw - she dug the small size most of all.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?
