AMD still raking in cash
« on: October 31, 2006, 08:23:27 PM »
Despite Conroe , AMD is still growing slowly across the board , with their purchase of ATI they will soon be raking in more. Soon they will be able to offer a whole system package : AMD cpu , ATI chipset with integ graphics , or an ATI card. Possibly they can even start building motherboards with ATI facilities? AMD still has a bright future...
A likely way to combat intel if they started to take back market share too fast would be to push multi socket systems . Make dual sockets cheap and affordable for Athlon 64s, quad sockets for higher end markets . For opterons....  8 and 16 socket systems? Thanks to AMD's bus they can add processors till kingdom come, even if any one OS or set of programs can't use them... you can virtualize to run multiple OSes at once , one box can provide computing for the whole family... and in any event , n00bs who will buy SLI physics cards and say that the graphics in quake 3 improve somehow.. will believe that many processors are good for them .

What fabs??? Crixx still lives under a blue rock I see... sighs. Anyways just to get the fine print out, ATI is fabless, AMD has more than 1 fab most recent being FAB38/38. That aside, ATI used TSMC, USMC and at least 1 other, whom also happen to make Nvidia chips crixx. Anyways I reading alot of negative press about the smaller system integrators and grey channel where AMD was usually king, but due to Dell and a few other BIG contract wins, they aren't keeping up with the channel demand. Hopefully when the 65nm process if 100% we'll see better throughput.

*yawn* @ yur silly propaganda

when i said what fabs, i meant, amd has had 1 fab for the longest while, now they have 2, or 1 and a half, great *claps for amd*, there 1 fan was already usin *innovative means* of not drowning, having to run @ extremely high efficiency to meet their demands.
they dont have the capacity to do that and make mobos @ the same time.
if they wanna go make some mobos, let them, and then the market would be free of those waste of time so called "processors"

Well then Crixx, once you will be willing to pay 2-3x the price for processors once AMD gone, for all your bashing of AMD, without dem the computing industry woulda been nonexistent for low-cost systems, 'cheap PCs' would have been $1000US and up, let AMD fade outta the scene and the same Intel chips that currently costing $300 US, will simply rise to $500+, for no other reason than simply there is no other competition around.

There is only so much narrow-minded posts I can take from you boy Crixx, yes we know Intel back at the top, yes they are all going strong, but don't play to such a fanboy level....jah!

hmmmmm, amd making mobos...that could be boss, they could build chipsets fully optimized for themselves, and knowing them, we go get a nice quality product at a nicer quality price :D
i wouldn't mind a budget multi processor board :)
then again, who wouldn't?

doh 'fraid to tell him to he face... in fact i did it in the road warrior thread and i'll say it bold face again:

CRIXX_CREW, WHEN IT COMES TO INTEL, YOU ARE A FREAKIN' FANBOY WITH NO LOGICAL REASONING!

right! now back on topic...

Iglad to see AMD will remain profitable... and to voice SPK words, without AMD there might have REALLY been no such thing as a cheap PC..

I am eager to see what they gonna come out with as a result of getting ATI... I mean Intel has always made thier own motherboards and chipsets... it should be no scene for AMD to do same (in fact AMD DID make a few chipsets already)... but i figure they'll just develop on what ATI has done thus far...

And we done know it gonna be affordable.... hooray for AMD!!

God is dead.

you forget.. Mobos aren't made in fabs , any gunta who  can make circuit boards can make mobos if he can get the chipset . The same factories used to make ATI video card circuit boards could make motherboard as well .

Sighs....
AMD doesn't NEED to make mobos, thats the job of Asustek, MSI, etc. AMD just has to make chipsets. And they did that already, however ATI designs chipsets for AMD and they USE TSMC, etc to fab the chips. Though ATI and AMD are now 1, that doesn't mean ATI won't continue to use its external FAB partners DUH. Its like Nvidia doh make mobos, they design chips and the SAME TSMC and UMC, etc make the chipsets then mobo manus make the mobo. Crixx yuh real talking a BAG of @$$. Oh btw TSMC also makes 90nm wafers for AMD, THUS in the event AMD wanted to make MORE chipsets (since they already made for their server platform) they could just have TSMC do it :p geezus.
