Yugioh GX Spirit Caller review
« on: March 05, 2007, 03:32:12 PM »
Ok this is obviously a series that will last very long i dont like the cartoon but i love strategy games and this game is definitly a game to get.

Review:

Ok this game starts you of with an unusual amount of talking that makes u want to die  but once u get past that it is pretty good. This game is a sequal to nightmare troubadour ( which i have never played ) and has many things to occupy u especially if u cant afford to get many games because with the amount of different strategies to create with your cards its a never ending fun trip. Now i know you're thinkin " even with all those strategies playing the same opponents over and over is boring" well there is a nice variety of duelists with nice strategies to keep you occupied so you will have alot of variety but, if you still think its not enough you can face hundreds of different duelists online with via wifi. I have noticed that gamespots review states that it lags online but this is not entirely true the game does not lag unless you are playing someone half way around the world. This Game includes "Spirits" a concept that i am new to as i did not play nightmare troubador, Spirits are nice little monsters who help you outside of duels. You heard me i said outside of duels no heart of the cards spirit :P. The first spirit i got would be jerry beans man he has the ability to influence some opponents to give u a card after a duel. I forgot to mention that there is a character creation where u can choose from a Variety of Faces and hairstyles. Although it is limited i believe it is definitly a excellent addition to the game as you can finally add a look to your own GX character. There is no female Characters atm but there is talk that the later games in the series will have them. Finally there was a lot of things said about monsters not looking good in game it is true that they are pretty mediocre

Overview.

The Good

Huge Variety of cards to plan your strategy
Compelling story for fans of the yugioh gx TV series
A nice variety of opponents if u wish to test your strategies
Spirits - enough said
Wifi gaming (best part for me as this game was made for multiplayer)
Character Creation
Monsters Come out of cards

The Bad

Monsters are very mediocre looking
Character creation is limited and does not include female characters
The story may become annoying if you are not a fan of yugioh gx tv series
It is hard to lvl up and get new cards ( i like this part although most dont )

Final Score

8.5/10
I will live forever..... Until i die

I agree with this review completely. I am also not a fan of the show but I just have a thing for trading card games. When they get translated to video game format, it is a win-win situation for fans of the game. You can spend a lot less money for access to a lot more cards. You also have a virtually unlimited source of opponents with AI and WiFi.
