7900GTO

This is an interesting product that caught my eye whilst trying to estimate the price of upgrading my rig. I stumbled across an eVGA 7900GTO. Basically it's a 7950GTX somewhat downplayed. By that I mean it has slower memory than the 7950 but it has the same Core clock as the 7900GTX.
Thus the specs are as follows:
24 pipeline
650MHz Core
1340MHz Memory effective
512MB GDDR3
SLI ready
Uses the same cooler as the 7900GTX
and the REAL EYE CATCHER... it's currently on Newegg for 246USD + Shipping (7USD) + (shipping to T&T)...

I almost want to run out and order it as I type this... but I thought it best to get some critique on this card before I shell out the cash. I mean DX10 parts are around the corner and we are yet unsure what kinda DX9 performance those parts will have, although we're promised great things... Where Beo, what yuh think bout this card dread??? I think if yuh ready to upgrade and eh big on DX10 this card is a STEAL OF A DEAL...

I think its worth it to wait...at least see what the dx10 hardware can do with dx9 first, then go for the gto....You've got nothing to loose, in fact you stand to gain cuz by time dxx is released, the gto will be cheaper.

BTW what method do you use to ship your stuff here? Looking to bring in some parts soon and looking for a more reliable method other than JSL.

Actually that's not altogether true. The card is a limited production model. Basically, it's eVGAs way of burning out their 7900GTX GPUs in anticipation of G80. As of right now, they are alreayd on back order from eVGA site, so these babies are gonna go fast. If you want SLI for it, it seems like best to buy 2 now or at least within 2-3 months. One may say thats a downside of the card in that in a year it may not longer be available. However if I do seriously consider this card, its cause I will sell it when time comes to get a DX10 part.

well it looks like a good deal and costs less than I paid for my 7900GT.

My big question would be, benchmarks?

throw some 3dmark 2005 and 2006 scores.

well Baego, if I get one or I spot any reviews on the net i'll do just that. However what I would point out to sort of estimate the performance is that it has the same memory clock as the stock 7900GT but the Core frequency of teh 7900GTX. That should put it's performance between the 2.

Great buy.  The final upgrade I'm looking at for 2006 is for something in the 7900 class (GT or GS).
I hope this still available when ah ready.

BTW, Newegg doesn't accept international credit cards (well, RBL cards), so how exactly do you guys purchase stuff from there?
