Audio Technica AT-DSP190 Cone Speakers
These "wine glass" speakers from Audio Technica look less like wine glasses to us, and more like floating marital aids, which is pretty cool too if this were Fleshbot. Nevertheless, the speakers are housed inside the cone, and produce sound from the bottom, into the base, which disperses the sound around the room.
The speakers are 30cm anti-magnetic reflex, and have a blue light on the bottom to make it more attractive to people who like blue light. They're sold in Japan and you can pick one up for about

DIY: Xbox 360 Wireless Arcade Joystick
Where is the fun in playing games from Xbox Live Arcade without a real, traditional arcade style joystick. Frogger with a d-pad? Are you kidding me? A "junior member" on the arcade controls forum managed to piece together an arcade style controller for his Xbox 360 ... a wireless arcade style controller.
Basically he purchased a new wireless controller and used some crazy ass wiring to rig it up to a joystick and some buttons. It may be a bit on the large size, but I am still very much impressed, especially with the ballsy wiring job going on.

Is this is a great-looking mouse and mousepad combo, or what? The Fanatec Heäd$h0t has an LED-lit arch that holds up the mouse cable, and the mouse itself is supersensitive, using a 2000-dpi laser sensor. Plus that mousepad/base is packing a two-port powered USB hub.
This is an innovative mousing system, albeit a bit pricey at $100. But serious gamers will find it worth it, especially since the mouse has a unique adjustability, perfectly fitting the fragging hand. I think it's worth a hundred bucks just for the astonished stares you'll get from the surrounding cubicles.

Logitech ChillStream Controller for PS3: No More Sweaty Hands
The PlayStation 3 (or is it PLAYSTATION 3?) isn't even out yet, but that hasn't stopped Logitech from announcing the upcoming availability of its ChillStream controller for the increasingly divisive gaming console. Making use of "exclusive, patented technology" (a tiny fan), the ChillStream is able to pump up to 3.41 cubic feet of air around your leathery hands every minute, thus "chilling" them.
The ChillStream controller will hit stores at the system's launch in November and will retail for $39.99. You can spend $40 on a controller with a fan inside to keep your hands dry or just keep a towel or napkin nearby. Your call.

Elecom 3D Laser Mouse Scrolls In Three Dimensions
Great for CAD apps, Google Earth, and that old game Descent, this M-3D1UR mouse lets you move and rotate on the x, y and z-axes with just one hand.
The mouse has the regular scrollwheel along with three separate joystick-like knobs positioned left, top, and right of the wheel so that you can move around in the three axes. For greater precision in both fragging and house design, it offers 400, 800, 1600 and 2000 dpi resolution.
At a price of 12,800 yen ($108), it's pretty affordable too. Who cares if teenage boys buy this to rub the knobs like nipples?

Yamaha NX-A01 Portable Cube Speaker: Bluetooth-Capable
If you thought cubes were so last-century, take a look at this Yamaha NX-A01 portable cube speaker that's just 3.3 inches high. It uses an optional Yamaha Bluetooth receiver to let you listen to wireless audio from cell phones or PCs, and it's punching plenty of power for its size, driving 4 watts each into two channels. It's $129, and its TRX-RO1BT Bluetooth receiver is also $129.
This is one great-looking speaker, and weighing 11 ounces, it's packing some serious magnets inside. The company quotes a frequency response of 90 Hz to 20 kHz, and if it's anywhere near that number, it'll sound sweet. Too bad that pricey Bluetooth receiver isn't internal or included.

Sharp and IBM's Real-Time Language Translator
So is this finally it? Is this the real-time language translator that will make talking with people in a foreign language as easy as it is in science fiction films, where it seems like everyone speaks English? Maybe. Sharp and IBM introduced this hand held device that the companies say can translate Japanese to English and vice versa in real time. It's set to ship at the end of this year for around $508.
This is not the first real-time handheld language translator, in fact there's one called the Talkman that works with the Sony PSP, and the military has been using similar technology since 2003. But this one could be a step in the right direction. We're looking forward to the day when these devices are the size of a hearing aid

Anlong MP4 Watch
Forget those dated MP3 watches that are so 2005, Shenzhen Adragon Digitek is offering an Anlong MP4 wristwatch. Pretend you are just checking the time as you tune out the ramblings of bosses/children/firemen to watch your favorite soccer team score a goal.
The watch is water and shockproof and can play video for 9 hours, though the storage capacity is still unknown. Content is loaded via USB 2.0. We will probably see both Mac and PC support if the rest of the manufacturer's line is any indication. No price yet

HP Releases the HD100, First USB 2.0 HD-DVD Drive
When not busy spying on journalists, HP does pretty well for itself and the HD100 is the first USB 2.0-based external HD-DVD player. If you want to take advantage of the drive's HD-DVD playback, you'll need at least a single-core 3.2GHz Pentium or an AMD 64 X2 2.2GHz. (And companies wonder why consumers aren't jumping on the high definition DVD bandwagon yet.) Furthermore, if you want external output, you'd better have an HDMI or HDCP-compliant DVI-D cable lying around. Otherwise, you're in for quite a disappointment. It also won't burn regular DVDs. Quality.
It's due by the end of the year, with an unknown price right now. I'm sure it'll be reasonable
