What to do during an earthquake

1. If you are indoors, duck or drop down to the floor. Take cover under a sturdy desk, table or other furniture. Hold on to it and be prepared to move with it. Hold the position until the ground stops shaking and it is safe to move. Stay clear of windows, fireplaces, woodstoves, and heavy furniture or appliances that may fall over. Stay inside to avoid being injured by falling glass or building parts. If you are in a crowded area, take cover where you are. Stay calm and encourage others to do likewise.

2. If you are outside, get into the open, away from buildings and power lines.

3. If you are driving, stop if it is safe, but stay inside your car. Stay away from bridges, overpasses and tunnels. Move your car as far out of the normal traffic pattern as possible. If possible, avoid stopping under trees, light posts, power lines, or signs.

4. If you are in a mountainous area, or near unstable slopes or cliffs, be alert for falling rock and other debris that could be loosened by the earthquake.

5. If you are at the beach, move quickly to higher ground or several hundred yards inland.

It should have been fairly strong all around Trinidad.  The epicenter was 26 miles nw of Port of Spain...between here and Venezuela...40 miles below the surface...

In San Juan at work, the floor rocked, part of the building's wall is cracked (minor for now), but he building's not very well made.  Peeps went running from the conference room where we were holding morning's productgion meeting....I actually was laughing....I was in Monterey, California for training in 1989 when the bridge collapsed in SF.  Now that was kinda' scarey.  I was much younger then....

Info can be found at Earthquake
I'd believe u if you were right.

LMAO!!!!

@ Odion, I read that standing in the doorway is actually a bad thing... apparently it was previously thought to be a good precaution, but giving the structure of a door yuh have to understand that its a weak point and a point where what is above your head could very well collapse onto you (got it in an HSE email). Better to cover next to strong tables/structures that would provide support to the ceiling should it collapse. Eg reems of office paper etc.

I was here in the office when the earthquake struck.
At first, I just breezed it off (I got used to experiencing a few tremors in Port-of-Spain already) but then the shaking got even more intense. I went under a door frame in the office and held on until the tremor was over, waiting a while to see if there were any after shocks.

Man. What a hell of a wake-up call, eh?
