a researchers opinion on WoW
« on: September 24, 2006, 03:42:45 PM »
So i started playing WoW towards the end of the World Cup to see what this game is all about. For about a month i tried different characters, different classes and ended up liking the Human Female Paladin.
So off i went and leveled and joined a guild and had fun and left a guild, and joined a friends guild and la la la and leveled to 60. I started to raid...got some of my Tier gear..got my epic mount..la la la...farmed for gold....spent weeks doing this and that.
I started to PvP in Battlegrounds and really enjoy it. Im on a PvP server so your @ss is watching over your shoulder every 3 seconds....you develop a personal hatred for the opposing faction when on PvP btw. LOL

So off i go after the last set of high level instances to do some raids. I raided ZG, i raided MC, Onyxia, AQ20 and some of AQ40 with some guilds. Had fun.......great stuff. Excellent when it works and a total disaster when it does not. SO much that you can probably hate everyone if a raid goes bad.

So after a few months of non stop WoW i am stepping down. Some hardcore fans are saying "boy you eh start yet" some say "you now start to play".....But to be honest after being Class leader for knowing about the Paladins specs, being Officers for a couple guilds...la la la....just because of my practical approach...i have achieved what i came to achieve

BOTTOM LINE!!!

WoW is an excelent game. It is addictive obviously because of the community. You always meeting people. You join PUGs or Pick Up Groups...with ppl with differnt viewpoints and opinions. You cuss, you argue, you make REALLY nice firends as well.
But after cussing the hell out of my guild in UBRS (Upper Black Rock Spire) and ZG (Zul Gurub) for not listening to their class leader because of the mentality i realized something.....

although the game is fantastic...the community is what makes you stay in the game. You join a PvP server expect sh!t to fly.......REAL BAD. the "stfu noob" the "you are ggay" the "who the f*ck are you to talk like that"....did i mention they are probably not much older than 15 or so.

Established guilds are very well organized, yes they have their drama but they also have an understanding. To add to that their requirements to get in are steep, they are very regimented with their raid times, you HAVE to meet all their requiements or you just dont go with them. They dont NEED you, you need them.

Other guilds you join that have just started raiding...you need LOTS of patience. Ppl dont know what to do......Rogues think they can solo a whole instance (i hate rogues LOL)....the mentality that goes with them has become stereotypical. the "I know i am better than you, you are lame i dont need you"

Warriors on PvP suck @ss. they are not endgame built. FYI in WoW your character spec is so diverse you can more or less do anything you want. There are some built specs on site...i suggest you take heed. Some pple think they are better than these analysts for god knows what reason but whatever. FYI you PvP server warriors...please for the love of god know what a Main Tank is ....and leard to hold you aggro, and you are not Rambo, or will never be without healers so keep that in mind.

Bottom line this game was quite the experience. Although there is more to do....i have not been to Naxxaramus but then i dont care to. After seeing the Heigan fight....i say hell no. LOL , not interested in the musical chairs scenario.

I enjoyed the game, i am leaving the game happy and good enough to say I achieved what i personally wanted. Its like everything else. If you try to be the best you will never finish trying, if you have a personal goal, then you can achieve it and decide what to do afterwards.

So that is the end of that. Xexyz (my paladin) is going offline

On a sidenote I have tried Horde. Horde is fantastic. You tend to find some more mature ppl on PvE than on PvP.....so keep that in mind. You find more people that are a little more mature on Horde than on Alliance. All the little kiddies want to be good. The ones that want to be bad however do roll horde and are the epitome of "jack#ss". So keep an eye out.

Watch out for the stupid, i cant type, i spend 15 US a month i can do what i want US mentality......otherwise you should have a blast. I recomend everyone try this game out. you dont even have to like MMO's. well worth you money and time, diverse, fun and addictive....put asside your social life if you are playing this game.

peaceout....

Next step? I have a 360 here collecting dust and Redlum has been cussing me for weeks, MONTHS now to come on HALO. Ill try out the RTS world a bit too. Interested in Empire at War, Battle for Middle Earth and so on. Yes Baego i like Titan Quest..good to move solo now and then

So ive lived the WoW experience.....amazing......moving on :D

peaceout

a good read.

was great getting such a mature insight into the life of a wow player.

Most enter the belly of the beast and never return.

funny that I've just started mine

Hopefully I will emerge unscathed like yourself.

I highly suggest you check out final fantasy XI on ur 360. Its cheap and the 1 month free play is enough to get u in tuned with the game. One problem is that you might get turned off by the game's economy (its not friendly to new players) but u will find a lot of help.
Big difference between WoW and FFXI is that FFXI is geared to hardcore MMO players. By this i mean, dont expect to complete a mission in 30 mins or reach the lvl cap in 2 months. I've been playing it for 2 years now off and on and still havent reached the lvl cap. AS for content, the game is Packed with quests and missions that will challenge ur patience to the core.
Unfortunately, because the game has been around for 2 years, u'll find those elitist players who will call u a noob and demand that u have the best gear ( which honestly is not necessary) but  you will find your way around them and meet some really cool ppl online who have similar interests and expectations of the game.
As of now im not playing it, college and stuff, its time consuming at the lvl i'm at, 4 hours of exp party only gets u 3/8 - 1/3 of ur next lvl.
so if you're looking for a greater challenge than WoW, check out FFXI on your 360.

he is a big dragon or sumting....that is when he is in human form. Phase 1 he is in human form and attacks the raid. In phase 2 he transforms, and lands. As he does so he lets go an firebreath. You need a cloak from killing Onyxia to preven yourself from dying or else you take too much damage and get pwnt.

Good read ... I was an old EQ guy (the original) and never reached the level cap. Then again, I am more of a role-player than a grinder. In other words, I like the experience more than the destination. I think when I quit I was around level 25 with a high-elf wizard. I think I will try out WoW soon but I am not the typical guild-type player. I will stick to normal quests and small pick-up groups. If I ever happen to hit the level cap, I will just try an alt or two. Then, if I am bored, it will be time to move on. I have too many other games to play to get stuck on one for too long, much less an MMO with monthly costs.

Left the guild and the game today. Uninstalled and cancelled my account. Too much time to dedicate to this game now. We raid everyday from 6pm - 12 pm. That is way too much time to dedicate to this game. And that is only raid times. You have to farm for gold, you have to get rep with certain factions, you have to level your skills. It takes to much time. After 4 months I have bowed out of WoW. ......so.....who playing Halo LOL

Shivadee , You Must rally the horde and lead your people to..............wait wait no....

Shivadee , You are one the few who have quit WoW happily ,You have broken the addiction!!! I congratulate you on your easy passing , but the ghosts of WoW past , present and future (burning crusade) will come to haunt you......many sleepless nights shall be spent in trying give yourself and family a blessing of wisdom...you'll find yourself trying to bubble hearth out of work.......

be warned...Warcraft wants to be played...it wants to go back to you....and it shall corrupt all those who use it on its path back to you......

(kinda like the one ring eh?)

Why didnt you sell your account if you were quiting, thats some good dollars there you know...if we ever quit, which we most likely will ,we're puttin this baby up for auction....it'll cover most of the cash we spent on monthly fees and pc fixes.

NO ONE QUITS WOW!
Manicou....Manicou MANICOUUUUUUUUU
