PC Versions of Games
« on: September 20, 2006, 10:28:52 PM »
I was in Techsource earlier today and got there for the 1st time eventually  and i was playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Star Wars BattleFront 2 and i realized having played console verions of these games, that the PC versions rocked even more, Controlling was alot smoother, and easier to carry out commands, besides that the look and presentation of the games were alot better especially the Ghost recon for example, at the beginning of the game the Xbox Version just has you sitting in a chopper, and eventually you come out, the PC version however lets you skydive out of a freakin plane, and you can see your legs while sprinting too. But besides these games are there anymore games that ppl here have had the same experience?

IMHO, FPS's are best played on pc's. Consoles could work with everything else.

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit was better on the PC for the simple fact that you could design or download new cars and use them in the game. You definitely could not do that with the PlayStation version. As for the new ones, I am not sure if they allow that level of modding. The last PC version I had was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II and, as far as I know, no mods are available. I could be wrong, though, because I just have not checked for any.

I think the PC is better overall. (assuming a high end gaming rig)

Obviously better at FPS and RTS games because of the keyboard and mouse.

wtfpwns  in RPGs like WoW, Lineage 2, Ultima, etc...

Can match if not surpass in adventure and racing games.

Console reigns supreme in fighting, sports and platform games.

imo ofcourse

but don't get drawn into the age old debate of which platform is better.

luckily for us there is room enough in the world for both of 'em lol.  You don't have to choose.

I would say that if you take some time to check out available mods for games, you may find that games are better on PC than console counterparts. It has been said that stuff like Oblivion is made even better on PC with all the mods for display, control, etc. and that is not even including additional content. Then again, there is something to be said for running games on a TV, with sound through a home theater setup and relaxing on your couch/bed/chair with a control in your hand.

PC is the best platform , esp if you have a powerful one :D , a high end pc has better graphics than any console once the game allows it to use its full potential , keyboard/mouse is better for FPS , RTS, some RPG and simulation games , plus you can just plug in a usb gamepad and rock with any other genre ,albeit there are few fighting games for pc ,you'd have to resort to emulation .

Consoles have their place, its much easier to sweat on a console than shoot up a lanparty , IF you can't build and can't afford a high end one , Consoles offer the best bang for buck for gaming also , Xbox 360 will be going for 399 USD soon , a similar performing PC will cost 1000 USD.

good point trini.

The PC gets a bit fat F+ for "ease of use"

Console is as easy as it gets.

No installing software, no worrying about catalyst, detonators or directx, spyware, virus infection, nada.

Just pop in your game disc, dive on the couch and away you go. Fun Fun.

No denying that.

That said, there are still many pros or those of us that can overcome the higher entry level (both technically and financially) for the GamePC

PC's all the way.........

Thanks to emualtion i can play all the old console games......Thus saving money.

I bought a PS2 controller adapter to use my beloved dual shock controller for PC....it works welll.......and i saved money by not buying a PC specific controller......these things ad up.

Plus i can surf....organise meh life....generally feel productive. (my work place is home)

PC=Cheaper + easier to fix + more versatile.

Sure you get obsolete the minute you buy it.....but i'm sure you get more use.

Then again you could upgrade in mere minutes thus getting more out of your rig........

There is no contest.....PC's WIN when it comes to saving money thus you have the ability to buy (gasp!) new games!!

I have to disagree about saving money by using a PC. Try comparing a Xbox 360 to a PC that has equivalent graphics capability. Then, find out how much said PC will cost you to buy/build. Then, find out how many games you could buy for your 360 with the difference you could have saved by buying the 360. Plus, the 360 is a year old now and older games can be found on the cheap. This applies to all last gen consoles (PS2/Xbox/Cube) as well plus you have a larger library of cheaper games to play. Sometimes, upgrading a PC can be a hassle especially when you have to move from AGP to PCI-E or P4 to Core 2 Duo. You end up upgrading more components than you originally thought you might have to (mobo/RAM, etc.). Upgrading in minutes ... Well, if you swapping video cards, maybe. If you have to change mobo, upgrade drivers, make sure everything works ... you could be talking quite a bit longer (especially if you happen to cut your thumb, see other thread for details).

It DEPENDS.

Some people will always have a pc with at least enough memory and decent processor speed . An x1900gt/7900gs is easily fast enough to overtake the xbox 360's gpu. Even then, it's a different audience, different games for now, and just a different feel. enjoy em both if you can ;)
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?
