while i do agree that spectators can become a nuisance, its kinda harsh to make them pay and not even be able to watch some cool duels going on. i kinda agree but come on paying to trade?
i will enter so its not a problem for me but have a heart. anyway if its got to done its got to be done. just reconsider the strictness of these rules because while it is intense competition dueling is supposed to be fun.

Tell that to my brother, who got robbed by people posing as spectators.

I used to be sympathetic towards spectators, but, unless I know them personally, never again.
Let them pay. At least we would know for a fact that whoever turns up paid their dues to come.
"Having a heart" just doesn't cut it anymore, since those posers who robbed my brother didn't.
Cause, you know. The last time we 'had a heart', we dropped our guard and allowed this level stupidness to happen again.

So, no. Let's NOT have a heart. Ah-freaking-tall, NO.

Actually, it's in the rules for UDE-sanctioned events. Quoting from the Tournament Policy Document:

10.   Spectator and Press Responsibilities

Spectators and press have the following responsibilities while in a tournament area:

•   Act in a sporting and respectful manner at all times.
•   Act responsibly and professionally while at or near the tournament site.
•   Follow the instructions of any judge or tournament official.
•   Notify a tournament official immediately if a player is observed failing to follow any game rules or incorrectly tracking game score or life totals during a match, regardless of whom the error benefits.
•   Avoid standing close to tables or crowding walkways.
•   Avoid talking to any players during a match or speaking loudly close to a match.
•   Avoid swearing or using inappropriate language or gestures.
•   Avoid wearing inappropriate attire.
•   Avoid making offensive comments to any player or tournament official.

So it's just a case of gradually enforcing all standards, so that if we are accepted for next year's world circuit, we would already be accostomed to the rules and regulations in place.

As for the payment part, it's a situation that I feel disappointed that it had to come to...due to the fact that even at the last tournament, we had 24 duelists, and almost the same amount who were non-participants, and those non-participants nearly got the whole event thrown out by security, due to the noise they were making and disturbing the students present, whose intention was to study (That piece of info was one I didn't want to bring up, but if needed, it will come to the forefront). Some of the  non-participants were present to just trade or duel (and never participate, save maybe one or two tournaments at most), and as a result, they never really contribute to the tournament scene, which can make these events harder for us to make a success.

As a result, it's a whole stand that if they want to come, fine, but you have to pay. No freebies for watching anymore, or trading for that matter. The pricing strategy is to really push for more people to play than spectate, so that we may have fewer undesirables present, since they may look to come, since it doesn't do anything to their pockets otherwise. If you want to trade, then just register as a player, you will be free to trade under the same $50 entrance fee.

It's supposed to be fun, but issues time and time again have forced us to consider enabling rules and regulations on the 'fun'.

When it comes down to it, it's to ensure that the people present at these tournaments are controlled, and possibly create a safer tournament environment.

Just to give a heads up:

We will have cheese sandwiches and drinks (in cups) on sale for the event, since most places to get food will be closed, so that way ppl will have something to eat, otherwise make sure and eat before coming or get something on the way.

Also, there will be signs placed on the morning of the event, guiding people to the tournament location, from the road entrance to the back of the church (before going up the hill itself). This is due to the fact that the main church entrance will be closed.

Check for any further updates...

Well the tournament is complete, the turnout was disappointingly small, only 1 tournament had a smaller turnout than this one, with only 12 people competing...which was a shame, cuz the area was quite nice for duelling....

In any case, the tournament was won by Shurland James, with second place being claimed by Sean Alexander. Congrats to the winner and runner up, this tournament, even though small, was a very tough arena, where there were very few 'weak' duelists, so games could have gone any way.

That's all for now, stay tuned for later editions, hopefully there may be one being held back in uwi, depending on the status of the area in question.
