I Just got my new Sharkoon Xtatic 5.1 Digital a week ago, and loving the hell out of them...BLEH @ Sony bulky looking headset...True Dolby digital beats Stereo Wireless anyday, so Sony could keep that. Especially since my Sharkoons can be used on all platforms, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3

how is it bulky looking compared to the sharkoon?
from the pics they either look the same size or sony own a bit smaller

astro a40 ftw anyway :p

nice to see sony coming with an official headset, maybe now they can start packaging the bluetooths with the damn system so randoms can at least talk every once in a while

Its a definite step up from that ps3 bluetooth headset (which I never use)

nice find.

Would still prefer the Sharkoon's to be honest for triple duty (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) but if you've only got a PS3, this looks like a sweet setup.

In the same vein, the A40 is a simulated 5.1/7.1 as to the best that I can find it has 1 speaker inside each cup.

Which makes it not that different from Turtlebeach. Either way having a headset sanctioned by the MLG is nothing to scoff at, the headset is good and Astro support is supposed to be on point.
The Sharkoon has 4 individual speakers in each cup.

i owned a tritton ax pro which has the same design as the sharkoon (someone was doin some copyin here as both these headsets dolby boxes are exactly the same design)

the REASON i pointed out that the sony headset here is stereo is because there was NO mention of a decoder box like the Astro mixamp or tritton ax720 dolby box. ALL that was said was that u plug in a usb receiver.

The mixamp/dolby box is what makes the astro and tritton 720 surround sound. The headsets by itself are just stereo sound.

PS: having bought and tested both the Astro A40 and Tritton AX PRO there isnt really much difference in sound quality so having 4 speakers in each cup isnt that big of a deal....just sayin. At the end of the day i can still accurately tell which direction is sound coming from and the Astros are built much better

It's also possible that having a decoder box for this particular headset may be redundant or unnecessary. Maybe we'll see a firmware update to allow the PS3 itself to accurately provide surround to the headset as it's a first-party item?

If you're not seeing the list of free games after doing the 'get now' part of the transaction then:
Go to the XMB and under the PlayStation Network column, go to Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List>SCEA Promotions
