Anonymous: Sony is incompetent (and we don't steal credit cards)

Sony yesterday singled out Anonymous for its role in the PlayStation Network data breach, but Anonymous has its own view—namely, "Sony is incompetent." As for the evidence against them, the group believes it is being targeted by a "false flag op."

Back on April 22, parts of the amorphous hacker collective Anonymous were already denying responsibility for taking down Sony's PlayStation Network. "For Once We Didn't Do It," proclaimed their manifesto.

"While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it. A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous' previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem with the company's servers."

The denials have been coming thick and fast ever since. Certainly, Anonymous had targeted Sony—with some Anons posting creepy messages about Sony execs and their children—but the technical attacks were supposedly limited to data floods against various Sony websites.

When the PlayStation Network went down, Anons at first worried they may have been responsible and that their tactics were alienating the very gamers in whose name they were acting. (The entire campaign was a response to Sony's lawsuit against PlayStation 3 hacker George Hotz, which was recently settled out of court.) But they quickly and publicly declared that they had nothing to do with the PlayStation Network's ongoing downtime.

In the Anonymous chat channel #OpSony, a message went up once: "#Opsony is over. Mission accomplished. #OpSony is not responsible for the current downtime of PSN. Whatever problems Sony have, they are nothing whatsoever to do with us. kthxbai. | DON'T ASK US IF THE PSN IS UP, WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT!"

In #SonyRecon, a channel which had once been used for to share stories about prank calling the wife of a Sony exec and similar behavior, the message was the same: "We didn't do it either."

In the #Hackers channel, admins posted a standing request for information: "If you know who hacked the Sony PSN, please PM [private message] HipLo."

They TRYING to get themselves shut down indefinitely? Let's see the chain:
1. Sony Sues hacker (they prolly should have HIRED)
2. Anon attacks Sony for bad form
3. Crackers attack Sony, bring down PSN, steal data, etc
4. Sony Blames Anon...

If dem fellers did such massive damage, sony think setting up ah brand new data center going to stop men like dat? their is always a way.

stueps. linux was used to pirate games before
while the hackers say they dont condone pirating software blah blah blah its exactly what the majority of ppl who jailbreak they system gonna do so they had to remove it and the slims didnt even come with linux

ppl who mad cuz sony remove linux need to go buy a proper PC.
if anyone tell me they spent $600 on a PS3 cuz of Linux i will slap dem.

D day sony removed linux, d PS3 became d most hacked gaming platform of all time.

Their is one thing some men hacking d system. But is another declaring war on hackers.

And psn being down for 3 weeks, is all d convincing anyone would need.

And in d end, d system still going to be pirated up d ying yang. becuase d crackers going to be ACTIVELY RELIGIOUSLY working to cut sony ass.

Their is a big difference .

fail @ Ario... this is "Everything PS3", not "everything english" thread... u knew what the man meant.. and he is right...

now on topic... @ Blu_Vice... linux was used to pirate games? on what scale?... everybody was afraid of being banned from PSN to even study the limited hacks that were coming...

but either way... there was no major pirating of games back in the linux days... and the PS3 system only get hacked to shit AFTER they removed linux... did you fail to see the Geohotz vid?

btw blu_vice that statment about getting a proper pc to run linux is utter nonsense...

the PS3 processing power is way more than any 300$ pc you gonna find... yes i am i pc man I know...

and people were actually using them as processing farms etc etc... so dont come with that lol...

either way doh... if linux was being used to pirate games before it certainly was not on a recognizable scale... if u have evidence otherwise.. post it up.. i'm willing to stand corrected

lol so basically... Sony removed the OtherOS feature BEFFFFOOOREEEE they found a crack.. and only after they did... Hotz went and find a crack in it, then they released firmware 3.21 to kill the OtherOS feature from all older Playstations...

so in short.. nope.. there was no cracking/pirating prior to OtherOS/Linux removal... between "OtherOS removal" and 3.21 there may have been some pirating on Older models due to the Hotz hack...

either way in short... Sony removed OtherOS BEFORRREE cracking was done
