Bull$#!t DRM coming to the PS3.....?   

A source close to PS3-sense is claiming Sony will introduce a serial key system for PS3 games, like the one already in place with PC games.

...and you're right about the paying consumers being hurt.  Case in point: my Crysis Warhead
situation.  I'll still buy the next Crysis game, but that issue left a sour taste.

I would go ahead and blame the hackers, they just making things hard for ppl who actually support sony and third party developers by purchasing their games legally. I mean imagine naughty dog, insomniac, team ninja, activision, ubisoft etc. who work for years to produce epic games only to have them pirated and sold for $10 bucks.

Its really a shame to see fellas like geohot wasting their talents and energy exploiting other peoples hard work. I seriously believe his abilities could be used constructively elsewhere.

Actually the industry would LOVE to stamp out used game sales. They do not profit from that thus a serial key model would force second hand users to pony up cash for access. That is one of the reasons why digital downloads are marketed so heavily, can't sell used game downloads lol.

I wasn't aware of the fact that PC gaming was less revered than console gaming cuz of piracy, as far as i know PC gaming continues to have a huge following. Being pro console hacking to make PC gaming more popular sounds a bit fanboyish.

actually is d hackers to blame. homebrew wasnt the problem. sony removed the other OS when our good friend mr geo whatever showed how he was running backups on a ps3....that is when sony started makin moves to remove other OS.

he cud say all he want how he not for piracy etc etc but das not d problem....problem is HACKERS wreckin games
so far mw2 has been hacked to pieces on ps3, gt5 has been hacked somewhat, modern combat, demons souls etc etc have all been hacked

sony hadda do sum to stop da.....last ting i want is hackers runnin amok in my online shooters, so far i havent encountered any but then again i only really play Black Ops online for now

aye alot of people only pay 60usd for a game cuz they know they could make back @ least half when they sell it used... so stamping out used game sales would most likely reduce new game sales...

and @ geo.. seems to me like it was easier to hack when the other os feature was there, why is it only after it was removed was a full blown hack accomplished... sony took a stupid pre-emptive strike which just pissed of those dudes and now here we go..
and yea maybe the hackers hadda take some of the blame... but this would be a very bad move on sony's part imo

Yea I'm usually in agreeance with what captain says, but that statement was a bit harsh especially since you've been recently playing games only available on consoles that are brilliant gems that PC-exclusive gamers miss out on.
But that's that and no need to dispute an opinion.

As for the DRM thing. So far the DRM isn't a major annoyance, entering a key when the game boots the first time won't be a major issue I suppose.
The points about rental and lending are all valid though.
Maybe Sony will have say an "Activate/Deactivate" feature on each code? So that if someone decides to sell there copy they "deactivate" the game on their system? Feasible solution I think. (Just like the current PSN DRM works).

Yea guys, lets talk 'perfect world' scenario. Utopia if you will...

Consoles are basically computers specifically designed for gaming. I think a great idea will be to have something like an (official) Xbox and Playstation emulator (one that gives you the full console experience even down to the interface) complete with kb and mouse support NATIVELY. You can continue to sell your dedicated consoles as usual but also have these emulators that PC gamers can get to enjoy those (admittedly) boss console exclusives.

Even find a way to have the emulators take advantage of the superior pc hardware to deliver higher quality graphics!!!

On my pc, playing 360 version of Black Ops WITH xbl men AND superb graphics.

Now THAT is something I will consider giving my first born for.



I hate how PC's decline has been blamed on poor sales and rampant piracy. There is a lot of truth to it, but it doesn't stop me from hating it.

Now that Playstation is now so threatened in a similar manner, fair is fair right? Playstation can now begin to loose some traction now right? After all, what's good for the goose has to be good for the gander. Yes, i'm vindictive that way.

I hate consoles and how they have segmented the industry and provided millions with inferior machines, I love pc gaming and if I have to go down with it like a captain with his ship, so help me, I WILL.

I appreciate both console and pc yes. Ppl with bess rigs does get some nice eye candy, for those who not really into tweaking/building machines at least they got consoles for a half decent gaming experience. Don't forget cost though, I would still say a console would be more economical for some folks.

As I keep reminding people, the console manufacturers have done a good job targetting market segments. No reason to hate, some prefer the affordability/convenience factor that is offered. I mean do you really think console purchasers are uninformed about pc alternatives?

As for piracy, how new is this on consoles? We've seen modchips come and go for various systems. The 360 can play backups with the right mods as well. I do know that ppl take the chance and play on Live with backups as well. As for the wii, well yeah their copy protection might as well be non existant.

emulators to run console games and play with console folk is all fine an dandy by me becuz playin against kb& mouse men makes no difference to me but u left out part of that "perfect utopia" and that is consoles will have to benefit from this as well so ur PC exclusive games will have to also be made to be properly used on a console i.e with a controller

i love GAMING not just console gaming. if i had d money i would have had ps3, wii, 360 and pc but i dont so i had to choose. thankfully/hopefully sometime later this year i do intend to build a new PC.

decided to record a quick game last night against some bots using the Move in Modern Combat

have to say im gettin better at it and with each day gettin more an more comfortable using it. u gotta tweak the settings to suit u tho cant just hop on an play gotta test to make sure deadzone and sensitivity settings feel comfortable for u
