Consider yourself lucky still. You can still access your xmb so when a new version is released you can still update your firmware. A lot of users system actually got bricked by the update and cannot even access their xmb which means it has to go back to Sony to flash their bios.

I must say reading through the psn forums really pisses me off. When a user reports an updates bricks his ps3 he is automatically either called a liar or an idiot for not knowing how to properly update. Then there always the other stupid argument that Sony didn't hold a gun to his head to update his firmware.

In my own personal experience I have never had an update work the same way twice. Sometimes it sticks and I either have to soft power down or actually turn it off never knowing if it will come back on. In some rare times it reboots itself as how it should be. Then theres the actual downloading sometimes it jumps from 30% to 100%. In the end it always seems to work but it leaves me frightened each time that the next update might be the last.

SO i called sony. They said that the problem is not due to the 2.4 update. They said its a software problem and the decoder is damaged and its an internal problem on the chip itself.

Well is a damn good thing i have a 2 year warranty with Best Buy on this thing. Ill carry it in next week.
Christ man.....these next gen systems are a piece of @ss.

I have to agree. I cant recall ever sticking my copy of sfii into my snes and it conking out/not reading/bricking/disc read error/rrod/overheating. I have never seen so much hardware failures as I have with this generation of gaming, of course some of it may be due to being more complex systems but still have some dam quality control.

2.41 is out and i did the update.....and my PS2 software on the PS3 issue is still screwed.
Returning and using my replacement plan warranty at Best Buy this weekend or next week.

o well...get your replacement plan...

Do the System backup b4 though...so u can restore your settings to the new one..

That would require you to manually backup each save file.
Not very fun.

In system settings there's the backup feature that backs up your PSN account, messages, videos, music, save files, game data, profiles... to an external hard drive. Then to restore, just start up the backup utility on the new ps3.

Ok...so I'm seriously looking forward to my B-day day this year...and I'm going to make an effort to get a PS3...

I want to buy 1 Wii game when usually I would buy 2...so this console is costing me one Wii game LOL

And can anyone give me some comparisons between the 40 GB model and the 60 GB? Also would it be best to buy a 60 GB with one (or 2) PS3 games along with the 1 Wii game over buying a 40 GB with one or two games WITH the one Wii game? If it's possible, I'm looking for a way to save money but get something worth the time. I swear Wikipedia NEVER helps me with this...

I just saw something regarding the 60 GB model not being produced anymore, can someone clarify this please?

(sorry for all the questions, I just get excited about stuff like this...)

Yep...
Initially Sony launched with 60gb and 20gb..
Both are not produced anymore.

They have 40gb and 80gb now.

The current 80gb configuration is a PS3, 80GB HDD, Memory Card Slots (SD,MSProDuo, CF), Backwards Compatibility with PS2 Games, 4 USB ports.
You can get this bundled with MGS4 and a Dualshock 3 for $499.
I also read about a bundle with a 2nd DS3 for $550

The 40gb PS3, well has a 40gb HDD, No memory card slot, no backwards compatibility, 2 usb ports.

Thought USB ports can be expanded by adding a Hub...

I recommend going with the 80gb.
You get a PS3 game with it, second controller if you go that route.

So look at $499, $550 USD and weight your planning on that.

I swear that is THE sweetest deal I have ever come across when buying a video game console....or anything for that matter.

If this info is available, I'd like to know if PS3 game data/save files eat up memory...I know I shouldn't worry about that seeing is 80 F'n Gigs we looking at here, but you know...always good to know. Also can the PS3 read ALL file formats I put on the HDD? Whether it be Windows Media Player, Quick Time, Real Player as well as other file types that I cannot recall at this time? LAWL

err...anyway right now I looking at the MGS4 + Dual Shock 3 Bundle, seeing as how I missed rumble when my cos's PS3... Since I'm most likely buying an extra game with the bundle, is there any title in particular that is highly recommended?(Don't say Star Wars:TFU getting that on Wii

Electricity Bill...
You won't notice increases unless you leave it on 24/7...

80gigs is alot...but for people like me and others sometimes that isn't enough..
My PS3 is a 60gb and I constantly delete stuff to maintain some free space.
Note I put alot of music, videos, photos...

Anyway...if you do run out of space in the future..you can upgrade the HDD...
By simply buying one and swapping in..no void of warranty.
Or add a USB external HDD and store your media on that.

As for video file formats: .mp4, .divx .avi, .mpg, .vob, .wmv (+ 1 or 2 others...)
Its also very simple to convert a video from an unsupported file format to a format ps3 recognises.

As for audio..it will pretty much play any audio format..
Though your stuff will most likely be .mp3
Form my experience...I havent had any audio file not being recognised...

As for recommended PS3 title...
Dude there's so MUCH!!!
You getting the MGS4...thats a great start...

i'd recommende COD4 (If you haven't played it before)
Reason why Id still recommend is for the online play...
We always sweating that... (if you not going online as much well don't bother)

Resistance: Fall of Man (Still a great title...) << You should get this...even though it old...It will be nice to have as you will eventually have to buy Resistance 2 due to its awesomeness.

You can always stream vids and music with tversity to save space. i have a 40gb saves a lot of space.

There are infinite ammo & health cheats along with see through walls aimbots. Saw this first hand just recently.
