PS3
Bad bad news came for European Sony fans from site CVG this week.

Sony's head of Worldwide Studios Phil Harrison recently told Official PlayStation Magazine that he wouldn't like to make any definitive statements about the March roll-out for PS3.

CVG also claimed that a source has spoken of a PS3 delay as far back as September 2007, pointing at further component shortages.

Fortunately SCEE boss David Reeves specifically told GamesIndustry.biz: "We're still on schedule to launch PS3 in March throughout the PAL territories. All speculation otherwise is without foundation." - Don't expect the rumours to stop anytime soon though.

As the PS3 is further dissected by the gaming world, users are reporting some serious jaggies on PS1/PS2 game emulation.

Joystiq have comparison pictures of original PS2 games versus the emulated PS3 titles. It doesn't look good, gamers are hoping for a firmware fix.

Tek Jansen at Gamescentral has an interesting overview of how to install Linux on your new $600 games console.

Oh, and make sure you register your 'PS3 Network Name' now, before it's grabbed by someone else. Check out the Sony webby here.

Time Magazine says the PS3 does not live up to the Hype..... I wonder why

Could it be the gamble on Blu Ray, or the fact that it is the most expensive Console in the Next Gen "war" or maybe it's the....RIP Sony

The fact that they couldn't deliver just 400,000 Units at launch shows that they DEAD. Their costs are over their head and they didn't want to release 400,000 Units that needed Updates which ended up not fixing the problems that came with the system. Sony has overextended itself, competing with Nintendo in the Portable genre, and then with Xbox 360 in the HD Next gen genre. They are spending $850 on each PS3 and selling it for $600. Do the math. They couldn't afford to produce more than 200,000 because of the high cost of the machine. They didn't want to take a risk of spending more than $ 170,000,000.00 to end up spending even MORE to fix the problems that came with the system at launch, and have 400,000 angry PS3 owners instead of 200,000. All they've done is create Demand for a system with lame launch games and gotten Nintendo and Microsoft more sales for Christmas, essentially shooting themselves in the foot at the busiest shopping period.

Actually, the main reason for not shipping so many consoles is that they (Sony) are having technical issues
with the production of their propreitary 'blue-laser'.  This is what caused the dramatic slash in launch numbers.

I suppose the idea of delaying the launch till 2007 would not have 'looked good' for them, so they rushed an
unfinished (in my opinion) product to market.  So far M$ has been very successful, and Nintendo is actually
making $40 US profit on each console.

I hate to say this, but Sony has bungled the PS3 launch.  BADLY!!!
I hope their 'updates' can fix all the current issues, and they can finally perfect this blue-laser tech.

As for Laptop City,   *sigh*
Somebody should be makin a jail for DAT!!!  That is MADNESS!!!  (Like selling a $2500TT Xbox 360 for $4000TT )

Just an aside ... My 360 cost me $1,300 in shipping and customs so I can see where they got that price tag.

$1300 in SHIPPING!!!?   O_O
Nah, something don't sound right there.

To ship a WHOLE DELL desktop, with printer, speakers, 17-inch monitor costs about $700.00 MAX.
So how come shipping a mere 360 cost that?  I've SEEN the box.  It aint that big.

You rent the whole plane to ship tha 360 or wha?

Yeh, like Qloxx said, it is 35% duty/customs plus shipping. Also, after the duty and customs is figured, you pay VAT on top of it. So, there you go.

Playstation 3 launch dates now official

1 million PAL units forecast

By Dean Pullen: Thursday 25 January 2007, 09:30
Click here to find out more!
WE HAVE RECEIVED confirmation from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe that the Playstation 3 will be launched on the predicted date of 23rd March this year.

The PS3 will be launched in the PAL territories of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia on the fourth Friday in March at a price of £425 (599 Euros, $999.95 AUD, $1199.95 NZ in the respective countries).

Allegedly 'responding to retail and consumer demand', SCEE confirmed that initially only the more expensive 60GB model of the Playstation 3 would be available on launch, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year but this is 'dependent on demand'.

An expected one million consoles will be made available during the initial launch period, but considering the complete mess Sony made of the US and Japanese launches, you expect this figure to fluctuate massively. Maybe the over abundance of stock currently in the US will help.

The launch line-up consists of the following titles:
Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Genji: Days of the Blade, Formula One Championship Edition, Ridge Racer 7, Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Tony Hawks Project 8,Gundam - Target in Sight, Full Auto 2: Battle Lines, Sonic the HedgehogVirtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3, World Snooker Championship 2007, NBA 2K7, NHL 2K7, Blazing Angels, Squadrons of WWll, Enchanted Arms, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion, Def Jam: Icon, Fight Night Round 3, NBA Street 4 Homecourt 2007, Need for Speed Carbon, The Godfather: The Don's Edition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, F.E.A.R.

Immediately available online, after you've downloaded the compulsary update which will be made available on the European launch, are the following titles:
Gripshift, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Lemmings, Go! Sudoku, Go! Puzzle, Blast Factor, flOw, Super Rub'a'Dub.

The PS3 will also ship with the usual deluge of peripherals including:
SIXAXIS Wireless Controller - EURO 49.99, Blu-ray Disc Remote Control - EURO 24.99, HDMI Cable - EURO 24.99, AV cable - EURO 16.99, Component AV cable - EURO 24.99, S Video cable - EURO 16.99.

Good luck in getting a PS3 on launch. Game sites started taking pre-orders around 18 months ago, so expect to be rummaging around another Amazon fire sale and your local Woolies, considering the 1 million units seem to be split over all PAL territories. µ

I got a sitdown with a Ps3 and Fall of man and i like it, the controls are sweet and responsive the graphics are very impresive and the detail makes you go OMFG. But on that note it was right next to a 360 playing Gears of war and G.O.W did look that much better but having said that i think by november so we should be seeing games of equal if not better quality coming out for the Ps3.

For their sake I hope so, I mean the PS3 is supposed to be more poweful, etc and I think that it is a good console, just they've really botched the launch and I don't like the approach they seem to be taking i.e. use PS3 to market Blu-Ray. More space is great, but the DRM infections... geez. Also the price is just too hot atm. We will see better looking titles later on but for now as is being witnessed in the US, alot of ppl are just sitting and waiting on it to stabilize and reduce in price. I not sure i'd care about the BR part unless we see an actual gosu game that needs the extra space.

SOny mentioned in their new Game Informer interview they are not dropping the price of the PS3 anytime soon. So all those hoping for a price drop "by dee end of dee year" it might be a problem. gaming expensive now, learn that.

No Doubt there Shiv, look at the bright side, it's the cheapest Blu Ray player out there, not that it makes a difference since you need a 1080p HDTV to appreciate it anyway, so Gaming and watching true HD Movies are expensive! LOL

just read this over on digg

PSM is reporting that Capcom will be showing some more Microsoft love and will be bringing the Devil May Cry  series to the Xbox 360. We've all heard this rumor before, but we're starting to feel a little more giddy by the day.

Sony increases PS3 price

Too cheap

By Nick Farrell: Monday 29 January 2007, 09:16
Click here to find out more!
ENTERTAINMENT GEAR gear maker Sony has decided that the reason that its PS3 is not selling as well in Canada as it likes is because the most expensive console on the market is too cheap.

According to hereGamersReports Sony has upped the price for the PS3 in Canada by $40 dollars. The new price is Canadian $699.99. Both Best Buy and Futureshop have the console listed at the new price, the old list used to be $659.99.

The move brings Canada into line with what the US charges for the machine, although local users are fuming. It seems that it is just yet another PR own goal by Sony in the PS3 saga which has seen shortages, high prices and a badly managed launch. µ

tsk tsk

read on here..

Quote
The official story: "Although the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PlayStation 3 in Canada has not changed, some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar. This increase is solely at the discretion of the retailer, as Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has not issued a price increase."--An SCEC representative.

Bogus or not bogus?: Sony raising the price? Bogus. That the price has gone up at some stores? Not bogus.

so much for that news, also note the date of the rumor being dispelled by gamespot.
