Quote from: Redlum08 on December 07, 2007, 01:46:20 PM1 More Day!! OK, so I have my PS3 now. I must say, I am impressed with the feel of the unit, it is a well built piece of equipment. I like the sleek shiny black exterior with the Spiderman Font.As soon as I booted that baby up I heard the sweet sound of a musical welcome to the PS3 menu. I browsed through briefly before updating the System Software, which on my connection took about 3 minutes to finish download and install.I ran out yesterday and bought a couple Blu Ray movies to test this new acquisition of mine and I am impressed with the quality of the movies, although it is very hard to tell the difference between Blu Ray and HD DVD now that I have BOTH. They are identical to me. I am running the PS3 on 1080i on my 55" Plasma and It looks sweet. I picked up Spiderman 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Vacancy, The Messengers, and Dragon ball Z the Brolly Special Collection.I also picked up Resistance: Fall of Man, which I will try to start this week if I get time. I am after all still trying to rank up in COD 4 on the Xbox 360, W1nTry can attest to that. I got Motor Storm with the 80 Gig machine and tried that out briefly last night, it seems to be a fun game from what I've played so far and I look forward to playing it through.I look forward to trying out the online gameplay with you GATT PS3 guys to see how it compares to Live. Until then, I will be spending time getting to know the PS3...
Even virtual worlds need to visit the powder room before parading in public. The practice of 'touching up' is something our shallow, image-conscious society accepts (heck, we expect it!), so long as the object doesn't stray too far from our idealized imaginations. So when Guerrilla Games rolled out a new batch of Killzone 2 screens, captured from this year's E3 demo, fans noticed the images looked a little too good to be true, drawing obvious connections to Killzone's infamous E3 2005 debut trailer, which substituted actual game content with pre-rendered 'target' video.
It looks like Sony's PlayStation 3 is on the verge of receiving a firmware upgrade which will make it a Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player. That's according to documentation posted earlier today on the UK PlayStation website, which lists the firmware 2.10 update with a European release date of Tuesday December 18 (UPDATE: Sony appears to have since pulled the page down). At press time it wasn't clear when the update might find its way to the US, but it's expected soon.An upgrade to Profile 1.1 would make the PS3 capable of playing back discs encoded with "true" picture-in-picture functionality, which requires decoders for secondary video and audio. (For a detailed overview of Blu-ray profiles, read Josh Zyber's High-Def FAQ: Blu-ray Profiles Explained.)As we've previously reported, the first discs to incorporate Profile 1.1 features are scheduled to hit store shelves in January 2008. To date, announced titles include 'Resident Evil: Extinction' from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, 'Sunshine' from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, and both 'War' and '3:10 to Yuma' from Lionsgate Entertainment. All Profile 1.1 discs are expected to function normally in existing players as far as movie playback and traditional bonus features go, but the new 1.1 enhanced features will not be accessible without a Profile 1.1 compliant player.Sony's documentation for the update also outlines a new "BD Data Utility," which was described as saving management data used by Blu-ray Disc. Other outlined features include a new voice changer feature for voice and video chat, DivX and WMV video playback and a "Type 3" bitmap audio option.
