PS3 Price Drop Imminent?

OK seriously, why does every Playstation 3 pricing announcement have to turn into an enormous cluster**** of confusion?

Let me lay it out for you, generically speaking:
1. First come the rumors about something.
2. Then come the general denials from Sony.
3. Then come more rumors in bigger publications.
4. Then come the categorical denials from Sony.
5. Then comes the statement the contradicts the categorical denial.
6. Then comes the announcement.

Apparently we are currently at step number five with this latest PS3 price drop rumor. At least if Thomson Financial Services (a competitor of Bloomberg and Reuters) and CNN Money is to be believed we are. In the latest story about the price rumor, Thomson reports the rumor as written about by a French newspaper and then follows up with this dandy of a Sony statement:

Quote
A Sony spokesman would not confirm the figures cited by Les Echos but said an announcement was 'imminent'.

OK, so correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that slightly contradict Sony saying they have "nothing of the sort planned"?

I really have no desire for a PS3 until either MGS4 or FFXIII comes out but if a 400US model is real, I may just buy it before SONY announce they discontinuing that line and then announce a 700US 200GB model.

So today i walked down to Fry's Electronics.....its kinda like a Best Buy/Circuit City etc place. Went to get a regular optical mouse to use on my laptop (lost the other one in the move) so that when stuff is rendering on my PC i can do more work. Picked up World in Conflict for PC too...think ill like that when i get to play it.....BUT

so a HUGE MC Semi pullup infront Fry's today.....BIIGGGGG Playstation 3 logo on the front. They open up and there are 6 x 42 inch screen tv's with some of the more recent PS3 games to play

Heavenly Sword
Lair
Ratchet and Clank
Warhawk
Elderscrolls GOTY
Motorstorm and i forget the rest

I only business with Ratchet and Clank since ive played the rest. to be honest its.....okay. Now mind you its at the beginning of the game with few weapons which is what makes R&C what it is.

however the graphics that people are raving about are......okay......nothing spectacular. Obviously this was a beta build that they are making....meaning not all the lighting effects are there (take too long to render out for the demo).

Any R&C fan will enjoy this game, but to me it doesnt seem to be pulling any new fans to this genre.

Now galaxies is releasing around the same time as this game. Remember although they are on different consoles it is the premiere platformers for both consoles of this genre. Well we shall see. I played some simple run and jump and kick some butt scenes and the "skate on the pipeline" scenario. its not as fun as you think it is....its okay.

maybee it gets better later on. Hoping it will.

PS3 price slashed by a third
Cut down PS3 stalks the streets
By Nick Farrell: Monday, 08 October 2007, 9:30 AM

THE MAKER of exploding batteries and expensive entertainment consoles that few wanted, Sony has finally cut the price of its PS3 - sort of.
The firm has released a new version of the PS3 which is only $399 but cannot play PS2 games, lacks a memory card reader and reduces the number of USB ports from four to two. Its hard-drive is shrunk from 60GB to 40GB.
According to Associated Press the machine will still run Blu-ray Disc movies.
It is hoped that the cut down player will attract more attention than the earlier model which was taking a canning from Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.
However even at that price and spec, the PS3 is still the most expensive console on the market.
Sony thinks the biggest problem it will have is not playing the PS2 games, however its research discovered that PS3 owners were not using the console to play PS2 games anyway. µ

^lol

That Conan demo was rel sucky...  :shakehead:
So cheesy and weird...

After playing Heavenly Sword...the bar of approval from me for those types of games has raised SIGNIFICANTLY....

But after trying Ratchet and Clank Future for the first time...
The demo has me sold..
I'll for sure be getting it...

I love that groovatron weapon...
And the graphics are amazing.. + the game is uber fun...

Insomniac does deliver on their games   :happy0203:

Right this is probably not the best question to ask, but its been on my mind for a while now so:

how does heavenly sword stack up against DMC3? Theres no particular reason I ask, but after playin DMC, most other hack and slash games feel a bit on the slow side. Imagine just beating DMC3 on hard (and to the point where usin Trickster was feelin cheap) and then jumping right into prince of persia 3 and GoW2.

So LAIR was sent to me from Gamefly today.
THe controls take some getting used to. Its mostly a sixaxis game, and i eh like the sixaxis too much. Anyway after a while you get used to it. People may say the controls are not solid or tight....but thats fine, the game has room for error. Its designed with the leeway in mind...so if you kinda sorta hit something you hit it, and its forigiving for the controls.

The story i am still getting into to see its worth. More on that later

Textures are phenominal, the animation is....okay. It feels like im watching someone showoff thier animation skills rather than showing its validity in a videogame, again.....technical producers are crap when it comes to this...and it shows here.

However the lighting in this game is TERRIBLE. I mean o god theyused the wrong lighting effect for EVERYTHING. some things look great but most of the game is dark as hell...wtf.....imwatcing a fire scene and only seeing fire and the light immediately around it, no caustics, no afterglow, not.....one.....shit. It look like something IIIIII did (lol) rather than someone who is versed at this stuff.

Another issue. Framerate. In certain parts the game chuggs for a while, and there is not excuse for it, bad programing (coding) and too high a polygon count rather than a high texture range.....this is the effect.

Rental at best, fun toplay for a while. NIce to "showoff" to the "aye daiz PE ES TREE? WAYYYYYYY LOOK AT GRAFFFFIXXXX" people. For people that DO play games, pass.

Gamespot seems to be off with a decent bit of their reviews, I really have no idea way.  Maybe they either too critical or just have their head stuck up their own arse.

what you guys think might be the better ps3 shooter Haze or Killzone 2?  The games haven't even been released but people are already talking about them and comparing/contrasting.

what you guys think might be the better ps3 shooter Haze or Killzone 2?  The games haven't even been released but people are already talking about them and comparing/contrasting.

Which is a pretty retarded thing to do.........Usually you have to play the games before comparing and contrasting, its called HYPE

without a doubt Killzone 2 will be the better shooter....(graphically as well :P )

HAZE looks to be great...I'll be getting it for sure (because it has 4player co-up/splitscreen)
But for Killzone.... I enjoyed Killzone 1 alot on PS2...

And with all that hype regarding the sequel...The developers should do a great job with it...
