If this fail continues im gonna have to say "f*ck it" and take up my replacement warranty of my PS3, return it to Best Buy and get a slim. This is fucking retarded.

Guys, helloooo, did you all read my post. I have a PS3 slim and I got kicked out of PSN as well and was getting the same connection error previously about a week ago. So why are you all thinking that the slim model is immune to this?

My post on Feb 17th stated it. In multiplayer games I would get kicked out and when I went into the internet test page it would acknowledge PSN network but at the end of the test it would say "connection error 800(whatever same number thingy)".

Yesterday was different, It just totaly kicked me out of PSN. Please don't rush off to get a PS3 Slim before we know for certain what's happening.

it is NOT immune. PS3 slims from before 2009 (even if you bought it in 2009 doesnt mean its a "new" model)

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.


When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.

When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”

When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”

Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

OK, so now that we know what the problem is, will it 'fix itself' in 24 hours?

I don't think it will.  Here's why I think so:

Most if not all PS3s' internal clocks are set to GMT date and time, so in essence PS3s that 'think' today is Feb 29th 2010
are freaking out, because 2010 is the first even-numbered year (that PS3s have 'experienced') that is not a leap year.  That conflict has now wreaked havoc
within the system.  We've seen the results.  When the internal clock date rolls over to Mar 1st 2010, the REAL date will be Mar 2nd 2010.

This conflict between the internal clock and realtime clock will still exist.  I can't see the problem going away until a firmware patch is issued
that actually sets the RTC to the correct  date.

If it DOES resolve itself automatically though, I'll be mighty surprised.

Just a side note, the 'good' side or Jedi have always been #$%^ek royally by the dark side, the Jedi is always plagued with issues and EVENTUALLY they come out on top. Seeing as the Xbox WAS plagued with tonnes of issues, but has finally settled down XD i'd venture to say MS is the Jedi (at least on the console, MS in software is another issue altogether XD). I think MS learned their mistake with Y2K bug, sadly Sony didn't with Y2KX  .... XD

I don't have any regrets with either, I tried out 360 and the hardware was just not reliable for me, others have had better luck. In my case my single PS3 has outlasted the various 360s I owned over 3 years, I'm pretty happy with that.

Mine is working again.  YAY!!!

The date said 29/04/202 though.  I just did an internet update of the time...and everything was back to normal.
All my downloaded games are now working.  Don't really give a flying f@#k about trophies, but all my saves are good.
