I never experienced any problems with my PS3, I used to be a big fan of the xbox 360 but after having them fail on me 4 times I got the message that it was time to move on. Funny thing was that I knew about the 360 failure rate and would never use the system for anythin other than playing games, so no movie watching, music etc. I have gotten more use out of my PS3 that all those other 360s combined lol since I use it everyday to either play games or watch movies....I've always used my consoles in an AC environment never helped my 360 much.
Then again look at people like Apprentice, on his 3rd PS3? I guess he cursed on ps3 like I am on xbox 360 lol.

My belief is that if one of these games causes your system to fail, it was probably going through hardware failure already and the game simply sped it up a bit.

What games have you all been playing?
I have a strange feeling that a certain game is stressing these systems too much.

Well that's an interesting theory, because the system wasn't hot... at all. And I was playing the bfbc 2 demo the day before it happened and right in the middle of the game it cut off and the red light was blinking. I just turned it back on and got back in the game.

Well my system is the 40gb version. Model: CECHH01
She was running fine all the time never had problems more that a game freezing and having to restart.

And Apprentice ah sorry to hear about yuh bad luck with your systems. Especially the slim is peculiar...

I can only assume that the games in question causing system stress/failures is the call of duty series.
Modern Warfare 2 is the only game i was playing on my slim amongst one or two others casually.

On my old 60gb it was heavy COD4, World at War...It died with MW2 being played.
Slysuki's ps3 died while playing COD4.
And I knew a few others that system died while playing the Call of Duty series.

Another thing u guys can test is play a random game, then play MW2.
Feel the difference in the heat vents and fan speeds.
The PS3 increases fan speed noticeably higher when playing CoD.

Of course it could just be coincidence that cod is in the system drive everytime as it is the most common played game.

O well...I called the people i bought the system from, he said he has some on order and well I should get a replacement within 2 weeks and/or end of month.

This is the WORST FRIGGIN time this could happen oy.
I have my money saved for Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain.... Eyes on Dante's Inferno etc.

God damn! i got a PS3 Slim for christmas and now you guys got me worried. The Game I mostly play on it is Uncharted 2 and so far no problems whatsoever. Should I be worried!

I don't think you should though I recommend frequent system back ups.
(System Settings > Backup Utility > External Hard Drive [USB/FAT32])

So if it does die sometime at least u get all ur saves, messages etc.

From my reading of the forums.
So far the slim ps3 deaths is an EXTREME minority.
But then again the fat ps3's only got bad with failures 2yrs in. So same for slim maybe.

Tough question to answer. I bought an Elite around Christmas 2008 and so far, so good. But you can never tell.

Both PS3's died under different UPS's. And well the problem that caused ylod and the subsequent fix had nothing to do with power supply. It's a temperature related issue that affects the motherboard.
