@ Arcman, you are right... but some homebrewers have gotten XP and Vista to install....but not me and that..

I did the install of "Yellow Dog Linux"...

Was a fun little project. Got to play around a bit with Linux and type Linux commands..lol
Takes up 10gb's of HDD space. (10gbs need to be reserved for OS)

One freaky problem i had was, booting into the PS3 OS from Linux.
After doing so, Linux did not transfer control of the bluetooth protocol as well as USB to the PS3 OS.
So no controllers worked,nor keyboard.
You cud imagine my horror!
Simple reboot fixed it up though.

Again its a fun little project, but you got to know a bit about tech to really pull this off safely.

yea i hav d yellow dog linux cd dey awhile now jus waiting for my HDTV n well my 500GB HDD for my ps3 , which i got recently, so is jus d HDTV 2 go since installin yellow dog on an SDTV is a little more of a hassle an i kinda lazy lol

umm.....are there any apps out there for PS3 that doesnt require any kind of brainpower to install.....I nuh really in the correct state of mind to do much more than insert flash drive~~~~> Press[X] and I bored.

*cough cough*aren't most acquired movies in h.264 or divx, which both play natively on the ps3? so what's there to convert (other than maybe re-packaging some .mkv files as necessarily)*cough*.

Curious. AVI files work fine here (if the video codec is Divx/Xvid, and the audio is MP3 or AC3/DD (even 5.1 soundtracks work)).

hmm...il try sum other files then, but its soo much easier to play them using TVersity...no need to transfer anything

Not all the AVI files work. If you are trying to run stuff like recently downloaded anime/movies in AVI format it may give codec issues. Im getting that alot when trying to run new eps of Ga-Rei or Soul Eater at times. You may try converting it to mp4 format (which SONY likes) and try.

I stream from the PC (offical video folder) to the PS3 very easily. But yep i do get some avi playback issues at times. some mkv converting is a big problem at times

Ok ordered a $20 PSN card yesterday from ebay, paid $26us and got the code within 15 minutes via email. So "I saved a bunch of money by switching to geico ." lol so if you want PSN cards and have a credit card and a paypal account screw the $200 for a $20us card rubbish, or you can always get someone to purchase it for you.

Hey guys I am lookin to get a PS3, tell me something is there a particular model I should be looking for? I know with the 360, the new Jasper revision supposed to be more reliable. Does the PS3 have a similar situation where the newer hardware is more reliable? or can I buy any model in a store with reasonable confidence it will last hehe.......

All the PS3's are good to go. No real issues reported. However FINDING a backwards compatible PS3 is going to be a problem since they are no longer in production.

Since you guys are "probably" buying from Trinidad you may find one because of old stock. However away....forget it (unless you use EBAY).
