steups @ apple.

Does apple support XP legitimately??

Rather than running some hack job to get your OS running, stick to the PC side of the laptop fence.

Get all the software compatability goodness (read games) out of the box with automatic updates in tow without the extra spend for a separate Windows License.

I have to add my 2 cents. I was checking around for a Core 2 Duo PC (not laptop) with all the trimmings and found the best configuration for the best price at Velocity Micro. They have a real boss reputation for building customized PC's and they have laptops also (customizable to boot). Here is one with options for Core 2 Duo Mobile and GeForce Go 7600 GS for around $1700 US. If I was in the market for a laptop I would definitely check them out.

something lil suspect bout that laptop

on changing the processor to core 2 duo from core duo, yu dont get to change the mobo, which is a 945pm with 667mhz fsb.

I would have hoped for atleast an option for a 800 fsb mobo

Way baego, where day come from. The Mac IS a PC (from the hardware perspective) and the so called hack to get XP to run is actually being built into the next revision of the OS... or was it already.. can't rem now. They're great machines and well OS X is better than XP ANYDAY. Just gaming is an mostly XP thing. I want to see Apple go after the OS market. As in the article I recently posted about an former Windows writer saying FIAH fuh windwos and buying an apple. That should say something about Windows direction. As he put it, the IBM of software. Not that I have ANYTHING against IBM. I think he's reffering to being stagnant and rather wanting.... save for buying up innovative startups....

I see your point, Crixx, but how many system builders actually let you choose your mobo? Most that I have seen start with a config and let you customize from there. This is assuming you are buying from a reputable dealer (Dell, Falcon Northwest, Velocity Micro, etc.) and not just some guy who have a shop.

merom's fsb is slower than it's desktop counterpart - 667fsb

As long as you're talking laptop, it's merom. core 2 architecture, but socket 479 for mobile. fsb on mobile core 2 aka merom is 667.

I'm looking at merom for a desktop actually - see conroe isn't bandwidth limited - so I don't worry about the slower bus. Overclocking conroe appears mobo limited for the most part - boards doing 400 are great, boards doing 500MHz base are rare. 667fsb means the board starts are 167base instead of 267. May be the ticket to easier oc-ing.
